Batman - Arkham Asylum PS3

Post by env963 »

Im sure most of know this how good this game is, but I beat it this weekend. WOW!!! oh Wow!!! Love that game, i beat it on normal, now i am thinking about giving it stab on hard. I had the demo, and tried it but I couldnt tell if i was going to like it or not. I finally decided to pick it up from best buy on clearance. $20 (after discount), base on all the positive reviews. Well in the end its just as good as uncharted, im IMO. Glad I gave it a chance.

The game is definitely awesome. I've been meaning to go back and replay it again but I haven't yet.

Before Arkham Aslylum, I'd have said The Adventures of Batman and Robin on the SNES is the best Batman game there is. Arkham Asylum tops it though

Everything is so perfect. The stealth play captures the fear that Batman instills in his enemies and also lets you incorporate all of his toys and gadgets(you have to play the challenge maps to really get an appreciation for this)

The combat PERFECTLY captures why Batman is known as one of the best martial artists in the DC Universe, especially when you watch a player who knows what he's doing, like this one:

The Metroid like world and Riddler puzzles give the game just a little more depth and gives you get another fun way to use Batman's gadgets

Also, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hammil doing Batman and Joker? F*@%# yeah!!! Harley Quinn is great too.

My only criticisms would be that a few minor improvements could be done to combat. Boss fights weren't as great as they could be(they repeat the Bane fight too many times, the Poison Ivy fight was cheap as hell, and the Croc fight was an interesting idea not particularly well executed)Also, the detective work in Arkham Asylum is done with little player interaction. Batman basically figures shit out himself then tells the player to follow the trail

I hope you guys are using the alternate camera angles. It's pretty sweet looking when you swoop down on someone or throw a batarang at someone. I think it's funny how the game doesn't let you kill anyone. You yank a guy off a ledge with the batclaw and think he's dead, but then hear a splash indicating that there is apparently water at the bottom of the pit you just dropped the guy into

There's a Game Informer piece on the sequel that sounds fantastic. They are incorporating more of his gadgets into combat and giving him the ability to counter TWO attacks at once. Also, Two Face, Catwoman and Hugo Strange. Sweet!

I'm still playing this game at the moment. It's freaking amazing! I'm only like 20% in so... but I love it!

I've always been partial to Batman Returns on the SNES. Although Arkham Asylum was most definitely awesome though.

It's so good that I actually played it all the way to the end. Which is saying alot considering how many games I've bought in the last few years and played for only an hour or so and never gone back too. So few games hold my attention anymore.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I loved this game too. Very satisfying platinum. I didn't like the combat very much when I played the demo, but after getting the game, attaining the upgrades and combos it became much more fun. Everything flows nicely enough without getting super easy. The only problems I found were the lame boss fights and other visual things. I'm sure there could be a better way of implementing the detective vision. I played nearly the entire game with it on and I missed out on a lot of the environmental detail in the game. I also wasn't particularly fond of Batman or Harlequinn's costumes and the graphics were unpleasantly jagged and sharp. But those are all pretty minor, as it was definitely a fun game.
