Best Way to Play Imports on Saturn?

Post by Mendoza »

As I await my newly purchased Saturn from ebay, Ive been doing all the research I can about playing import games, and I've come to a conundrum.

What is the best way to play imports?

My first thought was to get a 4 in 1 cart. It seems the simplest and its only 30 bucks most places. I've read that it destroys the cart slot and that once i put it in i pretty much have to leave it there.

The toggle switch seems cool, but i cant do that, hell i cant do the mod chip installation. I do like the idea of not having to use the cart slot and being able to use an official Sega memory cart.

Then recently i saw the switch less region mod and that's pretty cool and again it frees the cart slot.

What do you guys think?

Also do all carts hurt the cart slot. If i have to switch between a Memory Cart and a 4/1 MB Ram cart will it still mess up the slot?

Thanks

I would just get the 4-in-1 easiest way by far.

You could patch and burn games to your region, if you dont want to mod you can do the swap trick.

Mod chip and region changed iso's or Action replay cart. I personally am going the mod chip route.

I think the majority of my imports will be legit copies, only a few might burned. I still plan on getting a mod chip installed cause i want to use back ups of all my physical games.

If you cant do the switch mod, you wont have a chance at the switchless. Your only option is the 4-in-1 for legit import playing.

Oh i know i wont be doing any of the modding myself. I'm going to have the mod chip installed for me so i can probably get someone to do the switch mod as well. Its an option, but I will get someone to do the mod chip so i can play my own back ups at least.

Guess I can always get the 4 in 1 now and if i dont want to keep using it I can get the switch mod done later. Never hurts to have a back up method.

The Modchip is pretty easy, even for a novice like me. Ive done 3 with success. Ive actually got a 4-in-1 cart I dont need anymore, that I may sell.

I went ahead and ordered a 4 in 1 cart on amazon. Price was 33.99 shipped. A bit high but not unreasonable. The seller was in the U.S so that beat out ordering from Play Asia.

Just need to get the mod done in the next couple of months and i should be set.

I'd go for modding it yourself, it's incredibly easy. Hell, it was the first time I ever even touched a soldiering iron. Pretty much one joint and it's all good.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Got the system in today. Its weird it feels so light. I remember ti being heavier. I guess systems are so bulky now im just used to the way they feel.

I have a system with round buttons, but how do i tell what kind it is, 64 or 32 Pin?
