Modded Snes has off centre picture when running in 60hz

Post by Betagam7 »

I have a modded PAL SNES with region and 50/60hz switches. When I run the SNES in 60hz I end up with a slightly off centre picture on my TV so a small vertical black bar on the left hand side of the screen.

Havn't been able to try it on other TV's but does anyone know if its common and if its fixable with TV's that allow you to recentre the picture?

Any idea what causes it?

My modded Saturn doesn't appear to give me the same issue (although the screen is sometimes stretched a little too far off screen when in 60hz).

Nobody knows?

I had hoped at least someone else would have had this issue? Maybe the TV?

Quickest verify is a second TV. The TV you are currently using, is it a widescreen LCD?
Not sure if an issue but NTSC cart not PAL cart while in 60hz mode?

This is just my $0.02, maybe the resolution of the SNES is too low? I had issues with a famiclone that sounds somewhat like your issue, and it turned out the resolution was way too low, and I just bought a small crt at Goodwill for 5 bucks.

TV is a non-widescreen Samsung LCD that displays 60hz fine on consoles that support it like the Wii, 360 or even DC.

Whether I use an NTSC cart or a PAL cart I always get the slightly off centre picture.

Alas I only have the one TV to try it one.

CRT = Cathode Ray Tube?

Are you talking about modifying the TV here? Just to clarify I don't get the off centre picture when running the SNES in ordinary 50hz (although i obviously get all the other drawbacks).

Suspect the LCD can't center the older SNES NTSC resolution.
Maybe get that second CRT TV for the older Retro console.
