Beat Hazard - Music tracks and meetups

Post by Hobie-wan »

Since Ultra has multiplayer, changing this thread slightly to possibly plan for meetups and general discussion as well as interesting track finds.

=================

I just started playing Beat Hazard last night. I see Mr Popo and JT have played it a bit on PC as you can filter the scoreboards for Steam friends. Perhaps others have played it on 360 as well. I was just curious if anyone had noticed any trends or specific songs that produced interesting results.

I started out with the breakcore compilation Reduced Phat 2% that I just got this week. Overall it is probably the most difficult collection of stuff so far. Many of the tracks have several sections where the song has a pretty quiet bridge. This means you don't really have the ability to shoot and if there's still stuff flying around on the screen you're up the creek. I've tried some other random tracks here and there otherwise.

Subsektor - The Breed has been the hardest track so far and took me about a dozen tries to make it all the way through its 5:12 length

Cocteau Twins - Spangle Maker was the easiest. I only tried one CT track, but I'm thinking that sort of dream pop song might just be easier. Perhaps I'll try some more CT or maybe some My Bloody Valentine or Curve.

Oh and as an aside, anyone playing this with a 360 pad? does it control Robotron style or similar to Forgotten Worlds on the Capcom comp? I find it really annoying that plugging in my wireless 360 pad with the charge cable is communicating with windows and shows up in device manager, but does not end up being a usable pad. WTF were they thinking in forcing you to buy the wireless dongle?

Oh right $$$

Looking on ebay it's all knockoffs from China. Amazon has real ones but I don't really want to spend that much for just playing one game with the 360 pad. Anyone know if they actually work? I'm on XP pro currently if anyone can provide any insight.

I have found that I actually enjoy playing more mellow music. I started by trying to play some crazy heavy drum n bass stuff, but I then I got some music by Yoav and wanted to listen to it, so I made that my soundtrack. I used songs like "Beautiful Lie" and "Adore". It actually had a cool psychological effect. I also played with some slower songs by A Perfect Circle like "Magdalena" and I enjoyed that too.

Oh, and I don't have 360 pad. I just have Logitech pad that looks like a dual shock.

You can download programs that will get your standard joystick to be accepted as a 360 pad. I forget what they are called because I've never cared enough to bother... I think it's called x-padder or something like that.

Dongle - Untitled 1

This is 1 of 3 tracks I found on some guy's college webspace back in 97 or so. It has varied ambient bits with piano and some hard breakbeat bits. It it s fun track to play because the pace varies so much. At one point it drops a boss on you, then goes quiet so you have to just dodge for a moment because you have no bullets then the wall of breakbeats starts and you rip the boss a new one with so much firepower you can barely see (if powered up and playing on insane). Definitely my favorite so far.

The track was originally offered up for free by the guy that made it and being 13+ years old it doesn't seem to exist online anymore. If anyone wants to give this track a go, lemme know.

Unfortunately the PC pads I have aren't dual stick. I have an old generic 2 button pad and a Logitech Wingman Extreme. Yeah I could maybe use the tilt and the D-pad but I'm not sure how well that will work.

I got a reveicer and have been using my 360 pad. Some more interesting tracks I've found.

Kick Acid - Computer lame
. This is a mashup of pieces of game music. It is fairly long and since things change up a lot, so does the game. It is a hard track.
Joined at the Head - Whole Lotta Rosie. Another long track with lots of bosses.
Linus Walleij - Warez the Future? A fun track to play that nets a good score.
Generation X - Dancing with Myself. This turns out to be a really easy track.

Mr Popo and JT, you guys need to step up! :P

JT and Mr Popo haven't played in weeks. Dunno if anyone is playing this on 360 or is maybe only in my Racket Steam list, not my friends list. Maybe I'm posting for my own amusement at this point. I'm surely talking to myself. :P My best scores so far on completed individual tracks are:

-3 min - Belle Stars - Iko Iko - 4,993,188 - Suicidal
3-4 min - Cheetah in the Dark - Dangerous Mezashi Cat (Cheetahmen Alternative Mix) - 3,337,484 - Insane
4-5 min - Linus Walleij - Warez the Phuture? - 12,753,328 - Insane
5+ min - Lily Allen - Smile (Bum Ran Off With My Chicken Mix) - 6,338548 - Hardcore

Found my newest hard track. There are plenty of times where the screen is just insane with stuff. DHS - House of God (DHS mix by Jack Dangers) off of Jack Dangers - ¡Hello Friends!. It is a 6:57 minute song and I've gotten 73% for 13,668,860 so far. Been fighting this one for several nights now.

Anyone else playing at all? Any interest in picking some songs for everyone to play some evening so we could have some friendly competition seeing how people are doing with the RSS feed and in Steam chat?

I've played Beat Hazard on my friend's 360, but I'm more fond of Audiosurf myself.

Just because nobody asked...

Almost about to crack the 400th for highest total score. A few new improved scores in the brackets.

-3 min - Bit Shifter - The Connector Conspiracy - 8,224,380 - Suicidal
3-4 min - Cadence Weapon - Sharks - 5,872,348 - Insane
4-5 min - Linus Walleij - Warez the Phuture? - 12,753,328 - Insane
5+ min - Subsektor - The Breed (Enduser Remix) - 12,454,008 - Insane

A little improvement on my problems track. DHS - House of God (DHS mix by Jack Dangers) off of Jack Dangers - ¡Hello Friends!. Gotten up to 90% for 22,719,800 so far on Insane difficulty.
