360 for a Wii

Post by Lord_Santa »

now I know that some people will resent this, or call me an idiot

but having owned 3 Xbox 360's during, since the release of the very same, I finally grew tired of them

why?

because every mayor release that I would play on my 360 would be 10x better on the PC (Risen, I'm looking at you!)
and as Fable III is announced for PC as well... what reason do I have to own a 360?

I still have my RROD'd 360 in my closet and it'll stay there, 'til I can be bothered

so I went down to Game (my local game-shop) and traded my 360 with a bunch of games, for a Wii with 2 controllers (including nunchuks) and Wii Sports
I've had plenty of fun with Wii sports thus far and borrowed Super Mario Galaxy 2 from a
friend

I've not played any of the new Super Mario's apart from.... New Super Mario Bros. for the DS.... hmmm..

it was an interesting experience and a far cry from Mario64, although I'm not sure if it's my cup of tea

furthermore I borrowed Resident Evil 4 - Wii, which... honestly... I love the Gamecube version and the Wii version didn't add anything of interest to me

then the other day I found one of the reasons I bought the Wii in the first place: Animal Crossing - Let's go to the city (City folks for US)

being an avid Animal Crossing fan (I own both GC and DS version and now Wii), I was very, very pleased

now then, to the point of this story:

I bought a 360 back in the day (or rather I traded a PS2 with 6 games for it), because I own the Xbox1, heavily modified

hence I figured that the 360 would be capable of emulating games, etc. even better

to my disappointment, the 360 is not only hard to mod, but it lacks homebrew in general

the games I got for my 360 are mostly available for PC as well, hence I wouldn't get very many exclusives

this kinda put me off in the long run, since I found my 360 collecting dust, rather than the intense gaming I had imagined I would be doing

my friends were/are put off by the Wii, claiming that Nintendo only makes so many titles and that they're all rehashes of the old and whilst this might be true to some extent, I am more than pleased with that

why?

because I know that the first-party games Nintendo makes for each console kick ass

that was the main reason I got the Wii, but also for it's modding capabilities (softmod)

I am still hesitant to softmod my Wii and I'm not sure if I want to, but it's nice to have the option of doing so
of course I updated the firmware, before I got to mod it, hence I'll have to wait anyhow

anyways, what I'm trying to say is, that even-though I may love my Xbox1 (and I really love it), I am more than happy to (once again) be in the Nintendo-camp

I've got me NES, N64, NGC, DS, GBC and now a Wii

and even-though I basically get the same genres over and over, it seems to me as if though they evolve enough to keep me interested

and if nothing else.... I've got Animal Crossing.... =)

I support your decision. The coming year will be one of the Wii's best, for hardcore gamers in particular.

I disagree with one thing. Not all 1st party nintendo titles on nintendo consoles kick ass. Sure, the main games do (Super mario galaxy, Zelda TP, Metroid prime 3) However some of the spin offs are ehhokay. Though, Nintendo doesn't "make" Games like kirby, or ssbb, or metroid prime 3, or DKC returns.

I really don't blame you. I love my 360 but my softmodded Wii gets all the play in my house. With emulation and gamecube support- the pure amount of games I have available to me when i turn on the Wii is, by far, more then i could ever play in 2 lifetimes. I am currently running (and re-running) through every Zelda game (minus the handhelds) starting with the last released. I couldn't think of doing something like this on my 360.

I would rather have a Wii than a 360 or a PS3 too, if I had to choose. Only a few titles are exclusive these days. I miss out on some games, but I can get most good closs-platform titles on the PC, so I'm fine.

The Wii is unique, though. Not even its hardcore motion-less titles are ported to other consoles (that's very odd considering all other gaming generations, actually).

Good Call. The truth of the matter is that more games are released these days than we are physically capable of playing. So there's no shame in choosing only current gen one console to focus on.

Choosing the Wii for Nintendo's first party stuff is great but the Wii has the strongest third party line up since the SNES days as well. Make sure you check games like Muramasa, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and No More Heroes out.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

The same thing was with the 32/64-bit era. It was very rare to see the same game released on the Saturn, Playstation, and Nintendo 64, due to the huge hardware differences. Now, it's actually rare to see console exclusives outside of the Wii.

I remember those days. One of the fun things was scouring those rare games that DID receive multi-console releases for differences. Megaman X4 was wildly different (from a technical standpoint) on Saturn vs. PSX because of the nifty tricks the developers employed for each system.

...maybe this is one more reason why gaming just hasn't been as interesting these last couple generations?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
