Virtua Fighter Remix for SegaNet? Playable online?

Post by ImportBoy »

I recently won a new Japanese Sega Saturn modem off e-bay. It includes the Internet Browser and some other related setup disc. It also includes Virtua Fighter Remix for SegaNet. Now...I'm curious - is this version of Virtua Fighter Remix actually playable online (or over the phone lines or whatever)? Or is it somekind of online based ranking system? Anyone know?

Guess I'll find out in a few days for sure.

If it did work, wouldn't the lag be kinda bad?

If anyone else has a modem and wants to give it a try with me, I'll make a image of it. I imagine it might lag pretty bad though.

The lag is not your problem, the jap modems used a player matching service, they would dial to a server, get authorization, the server would match them to a waiting player and if no one was avaliable, it would tell your saturn to listen and wait for a player. Much different than the american, just call your friend version. The matching service is long dead and as far as i know, the server has not been reverse engineered. Just for the the info, the lag is very good on the direct dial multiplayer in the american games, no network overhead to worry about.
