N-Gage QD refuses to connect/use standard 2.5mm headset?

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

Ok, I'm pissed.....really pissed.

My N-Gage QD for some reason needs the OS to tell it to switch to a headset when I plug it in. BUT for some reason I keep getting "enhancement not supported" with every 2.5mm phone headset I try to use. WHY THE FUCK CAN'T NOKIA JUST MAKE A SIMPLE AND INTELLIGENTLY DESIGNED PHONE SINCE 2001!? I mean I should just be able to plug it in and go, there's no freaking software needed, just a simple cutoff circuit to the earpiece when a headset is plugged in, that's all.

I can't find any help online because the only threads I can find are 6-7 year old half finished archive threads with no answer and I'm getting ready to smash this fucker against the wall.

Anyhow, does anyone know what to do, or if I have to use some sort of freaking proprietary headset? It's been a lousy enough day and after all this I am literally about five seconds from smashing this fucking thing to pieces.

Sorry I never tried it other than with the headset that came with it.

What happens when you plug in the headset that comes with the phone?

Too weird. Read some sites saying to leave headset plugged in then turn off and back on.

Then came across this review. Sheesh another cell phone with a proprietary jack.

The N-Gage doesn't need a lot of plugs and sockets. There's just a USB connector, audio in and out (using tenth-inch micro-plugs, not standard eighth-inchers), a DC input, and a hole for the speaker's sound to get out.
Modman, hey I have it worse. My Impression uses the charger connection for a proprietary headset.

Your comment reminded me of a joke.
Some look at the glass half full, others half empty or maybe in this situation smashed against the wall in a thousand pieces.

Maybe a bluetooth headset?

Well, that would let us know if the thing is supposed to "just work" or if there are hoops to jump through even if you have the official one. Apparently, it should "just work."

Mod_man, it looks like you can buy N-Gage headsets online. If you don't want to go that route, I'm guessing it's a relatively simple fix to make one of your headsets work, if you don't mind there being a kludge of electrical tape on it at one point. It's not foolproof, though, so you might lose a headset.

Ok now I understand what you want.

When I plug them in, the deck takes 2 to 3 seconds, then it recognizes the phones went in and displays a "headphone" symbol in the upper right corner. The sound will come from the phones instead of the speakers.

Funnily enough, I removed the phones and re-inserted them a 2nd time, and I got the error message "Enhancement not supported". Removed and re-insert them a 3rd time and takes some seconds and recognizes. I didn't get the error again, I probably inserted them a bit badly the 2nd time.

Thanks for the tips so far Ivo, I'm just kinda ticked about not being able to simply use my own existing headset.
