I had already purchased an Amazon Prime membership but signed up for the free year anyway, and they actually refunded me for the remaining time left on my paid account.

just to clarify, the deal is specifically for college students, not for anyone with an .edu address

Prime will change your life. I recommend everyone with a college address try it out.

To echo Dsheinem:

If you have a .edu address, but are not a student and Amazon finds out you'll be on the hook for any benefits you received. As part of the terms and conditions, they say that they may require documentation to verify enrollment.

True. I should have been more explicit. However, I think that unless you are a reseller or do some massive volume, I don't think amazon will necessarily care much.
Speaking of which, they don't seem to care much when people split amazon prime memberships, which is waaay shadier. 5 people with different addresses in the same "household" that are all related. hmmm...

Just registered. Thanks!

I told a bunch of coworkers on campus...I don't think they're students though. Hope they don't get pwned.

I am not receiving the confirmation email from Amazon. I had this same problem when I tried to get the student discount for Microsoft Office. My student email just doesn't seem to want to receive outside emails. :?
