Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Idea for a web site

Post by All Hail The New Flesh »

I just came up with one good idea for a web site and I just like to share it. I got this idea from this web site called Acclaimed Music. What the web site is about some guy who actually like counts like scores from certain songs or albums rated by critics around the world and put them on a list, example, "Rolling Stones Top 500 song of all time" and there number one song is "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, what he did that he just add 500 points to the song because its the number one song on the top 500, and there number 500 song is "More Than a Feeling" by Boston so he added 1 point to the song.

I was thinking on running a web site like that but with Video Games. But the problem is that I don't really have alot of time to make a web site or a list, or find a bunch of gaming web sites and mags for lists and there scores and stuff.

Also, Game ranking worked the same way but its just based on Readers opinion and only Critic scores from the internet.

So like Metacritic for classic games?

well, that idea is actually just a part of my "top secret project".
If you'd like to help, I could get you involved once I get things organized.

Thats a really cool idea, but how would you run it. I mean, who would be the critics? Thats ALOT of data for it to be accurate. Maybe you could purchase one of those phonelines (like for reality tv haha) and make people pay to vote!... money could go into making the site as well as only getting real votes (because once you put a price on things, only(i say loosely) serious voters would go forth with that.

Well, you have to start somewhere, so it would just be a gradual thing.
As for the phone thing, I don't think many people would be willing to pay. Plus, I wouldn't want to charge people for something like that.

The best gaming site that I have come across is this one here:

www.GameTraderWorld.com?user=retrogamer85

When you visit the main page go to the BROWSER > consoles/systems/games subtab and you will see how they have their rating system set up. It is the nicest format I have seen so far.

See how the site owner runs the monthly contest. If you can sell raffle tickets via Paypal plus have a system where members can earn free tickets you will make a bundle. So far he has given away (2) Playstation 3's, a Nintendo Wii, and a Nintendo DS Lite. It would be a great source of revenue instead of the store because you will not have to put out money for product and sit on the inventory along with the debt on your CC's until all of the inventory is sold. The giveaways are instant profit with no overhead on the prizes since they are ordered after the contest is over. The trick is to make sure you sell double or more in raffle tickets then the value of the prize. :)

What if you don't have enough people participate?
