Well, It Finally Happened (a handicap parking space story)

Post by Luke »

Went to the store today to replenish the beer fridge, which had a shockingly low inventory. After I parked my car, I noticed a guy (6'1ish, probably 200 lbs., late 20's early 30's) leaving his cart intentionally in a handicapped parking spot, blocking it. I walk over to move the cart, and the guy says "I'm one of those frustrating lazy niggas who don't return their cart".

I replied, "It's not frustrating that you're lazy, what's frustrates me is that you'd block some one who's handicapped from being able to park". I took the cart back into the store, and picked up some brewskis.

While at the check out line, I see the guy walking back into the store. I had already sized him up, but I was thinking "Holy shit. I think this guy is going to want to throw down in a grocery store". But my second thought was, "Holy shit! This could be an awesome fight if we don't get arrested".

I hate to disappoint, but he came back to apologize. He said something close to "I'm sorry my man. I realize I'm lazy, but you're right. I shouldn't block a handicap spot like that. That just ain't right". And I told him that I see people doing the same thing everyday, and how it pisses me off that we have tens of thousands of returning military troops with missing limbs, and that it's just kind of a spit on the face to block a spot that they, and others need. He then actually promised me he'd never do it again, told me I was alright, and then we bro-hugged.

So, that made me really happy. More happy than I should be, but I'm glad at least one person in this town gets it.

Still, a fight in the cereal aisle could have been phenomenal. Boxes and cereal flying all over the place, cameras catching it all on tape.

Luke, that's awesome. And way better than the fat-people argument story because in this one you actually got through to the guy. That's cool.

Thanks guys. The way things turned out really made my day, and I wouldn't doubt for a second that the guy may even confront others the same way I did (in this case). He was definitely sincere in his apology.

If more people would just stop and think, ya know?

Great story! It is nice to see someone convicted by their lack of selflessness and compassion for others and then decide to change. Gives ya hope. Good going Luke, I raise my brew to you!

Nice. 8)

I think everyone on racketboy knows not to block handicap spots, especially if Luke is around. Shit could go down hard and you be pulling Cap'n Crunch out of your ears for weeks.
