Chrono Trigger: Good News and Bad News

Post by lisalover1 »

Well, as the topic title says, I have some good news and bad news for all you Chrono Trigger fans. The good news? Game developer Obsidian is interested in making a sequel to Chrono Trigger [or Chrono Cross, if you want to be chronological], and may soon start development on it! The bad news... they want to turn it from a JRPG into a free-roaming, MMO-esque, Western RPG... Prepare for the oncoming riot, because fans are going to lose their minds. I haven't even played that much of the game, and I'm already seriously pissed! Here is the link to the full story:

No one has played it yet, so why should you be so judgmental? It might suck, or it might but be one of the greatest games you've ever played.

This is just all public speculation by Obsidian; "wouldn't it be great if we could do this?" As far as I've seen Squeenix doesn't actually have any plans to have Obsidian do a Chrono sequel.

Chrono Trigger was a good game because there wasn't really any other RPG like it at the time as far as gameplay went. To this day, its still one of my favorite games and I really think a sequel would have to be similar in gameplay for me to really enjoy it.

Chrono Cross, for example, was a great game, but I never really felt like I was playing the sequel to Chrono Trigger. Hopefully Square-Enix does the right thing and keeps the gameplay somewhat similar to the first game.

at this point im not too worried...since it's all speculation. the western part doesn't get me as much as mmo style. i wouldn't like that. but again not worried yet. more worried about what double helix is doing to Front Mission. they better not screw that up...

If it's at least as good as Armored Core For Answer I'll be happy, as I enjoyed that game.

if this happens, no matter what, I think everyones just going to be pissed because there is no possible way that they could make it as good as Chrono Trigger. I havnt played Chrono Cross, so i'm not sure about that. I would much rather see this be a JRPG though. MMO and Chrono Trigger should NEVER go together.

when i think of it though, if an mmo for the series is gonna be made, i would think square enix wouldn't allow others to use the chrono trigger name, and they make there own. but what im getting to is square enix is preety good at makeing mmo style games. FF online is (or was) very unique compared to many online games out there. and there other lesser known game Front Mission Online was not only successful, but was also quite unique (being a 3rd person team based action game). so there is a slight chance that if it was made...it wouldn't be bad. but i still would rather prefer and RPG over and MMO.
