FYE Music Stores have a Video Game Store in CT, USA

Post by optmusprimenumber »

It's called FYE Games and apparently it's a prototype store (the only one in the country)... seemingly no different than your average Gamestop or Electronics Boutique from the outside... though take a walk inside and you'll find some retro stuff(!). The guy says they'll take anything video game related. Their selection isn't too impressive, but for it's size it has some variety... Dreamcast games, N64 controllers (with good sticks), some other things that I remember going "oh you got that too" about. It's been there a few years now (probably more) but hopefully their retro stock increases and the store spreads out to other locations. Not that I necessarily think corporate entities need to stick their fingers in the retro vg pie, but if it means that there could be more places to shop for retro stuff then I'm for it. Any CT residents here not familiar with the Waterbury area might want to swing by the Brass Mill Center (Mall) and check it out.

Where in Connecticut? I'm going there soon, and am hoping to find some retro stores in the state. If I do, I will add them to the retro game store list.

FYE Music-Movie stores here have been shutting down. Most the Movies, CDs and Games were overpriced worse than Best Buy. FYE had a small game selection only one left locally. If that Connecticut store is the same company, a smart move creating a gaming exclusive outlet. Hopefully doesn't fall like Game Crazy DVD lost revenue stock. I think Game Crazy would have survived if they dropped the Hollywood Video losses a year prior.

Hope it survives, competetion always a good thing.

Totally agree on the overpriced aspect. The wiki is interesting reading. Growing up, I would check out the Sam Goody store for music. Apparently they became FYE at some point. Being in the New England area, the Strawberries chain turned into FYE.

The best music chain in NE is Newbury Comics in my opinion.

I just returned from Boston a couple days ago, Newbury Comics in Cambridge is one of my favorite stores... but that one didn't seem to carry any retro.
