Dont buy an xbox 360, mine just died. I just started really playing it around christmas and now it died. What a piece of junk. I have never had a console die before, Microsoft's quality control is horrible. I have heard that Xbox 360 failure is nearly epidemic, with a minimum of 5% of xbox 360 consoles breaking (minumum). Yes the hinge on my DS cracked, but it still works fine, and plays games fine. This doesnt do crap anymore. I bought a bunch of xbox live games, and now I am screwed because I dont have them on a physical medium (other than my hard drive, and who knows if that will work on a different xbox 360 or at all since my xbox is screwed). It is a poorly built console and I hope it fails world wide and comes in third place after the PS3, I am not buying another xbox 360...which is sad because I recommened it to a friend just today.
I probably won't buy one until there is a revision. Although, I said that about the original XBox and never saw a major change (I wanted a smaller one).
At least they are making quieter ones now, but the reliability needs to improved.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed on my DS. I don't open it all the way, so hopefully, that will help the hinge. I've heard that's the main cause.

You honestly don't seem mature enough to handle having a 360. You always take a chance when buying electronics of any kind. These are complex devices that have many different parts which can break. I'm not saying Microsoft shouldn't have better quality control, just that you should be more understanding. Yes, it is a big chunk of money and it sucks when it breaks, but if you want to own these things you should take the chances and just fix it or forget it when something happens. Complaining about it when there is really no reason is useless, unless you are going to complain to Microsoft that is. It's like when someone on NewEgg gets a DOA and gives a product a horrible score. There are always DOAs when buying computer parts, but that doesn't mean it's a bad product. You just lucked out and it sucks. That's life though. Yes, I may be preaching, but this is something you should always keep in mind. Also, when did you buy the 360? You can technically get it free if it was made before Jan 1, 2006 (it's on the console) or if it is still under manufacturer warranty. The xbox 360 is still quite a peculiar device with a gamut of odd problems that seem like faulty design. Then again, same thing can be said about the PS2 and yet it was the winner by a large margin last 'console war', so obviously most people don't get that tiffed by a broken product.

I've had a PS2 die on me. I personally know of 3 other people who've had to buy new PS2s. I've seen a PS1 with a completely psychotic laser. It would skip from one part of an FMV to a completely different one on the other end of the disc. It was kinda neat actually. I've had a friend's Saturn's laser give it up back when they were relatively new. My Saturn has a dead cart slot. I could fill a page with this. 360s are somewhat worse in this regard, but I also hear they are somewhat better now than they were at launch. The only gaming company I trust to build durable hardware is Nintendo.
You buy electronics, you take a chance. Every time my PS2 or 360 makes an unusual noise I stare at it waiting for the flames to start shooting out.

I honestly haven't heard a thing about the PS3 having technical problems. I'm not a Sony fanboy at all but when a new console is released the least of my worries are the price and certain graphical problems that can be fixed easily with a firmware update. You update the firmware on the 360 and it's hit or miss. I'm still waiting though, which is why I haven't bought one. You have to give it to Sony on this one, around 5 months and the only problem people are still talking about is the price.

Give it time -- nobody can afford/wants one right now, so that's why you haven't heard anything....

Exactly. Plus, we have no idea what amount of power is being used on current PS3 games. Weren't the games that caused a lot of 360's to malfunction Oblivion and Dead Rising? These games seemed to use quite a bit of the 360s capabilities and thus overheating and stuff was possible. Let's just wait until Lair comes out, as that beast of a game may just take down a few PS3s...racketboy wrote:Saraph wrote:I honestly haven't heard a thing about the PS3 having technical problems.

I could make a speech and a sweeping generalization about how people are rough with their stuff, or how people overeact to hardware failure, or maybe people just like to make shit up about stuff breaking just so they can bash someone like a tard, it's happened a billion times on the thing called the "interwebs".
But I'll just count my blessings and say that with every console purchased, I've never had a hardware failure. My old PS1 still works perfectly (Not the newer model the older one), everything on my Saturn still runs fine, My Dreamcast still works perfect, my 360 (I'm heading into a years ownership with it too including unplugging and moving it around a lot since I share it with people) is just fine so is my X-box, my used 1st Generation PS2 has had no problems at all.
I guess some people just have shitty luck, average luck, and good luck.

Its mostly how microsoft treats people
Microsoft treated me like crap. A) they didnt tell me the warranty was extended, I was magically supposed to know. B) Because I didnt know I waited less than a month too long. Not only that, the purchase date of a console is when it gets out of the retail chain, not when It gets into a consumer's hands, so although I purchased the console on May 29th, it doesnt count because it was out of the supply chain on Feburary 2006. And the managers are not helpful one bit. Basically I have a 400 dollar paper wieght and microsoft could care less. Their customer serice was a disservice. Don't buy 360, I am buying a Wii, and will love it. because nintendo stuff never breaks. (besides the original NES). Wish sega still made hardware, their stuff was invincible. My saturn will outlive me!
