The battery's inevitable demise
The battery's inevitable demise
When I got my used Saturn the battery was dead, which was no surprise. I got one from Racketboy and all is well now, but eventually that battery is going to die too. Since my cartridge slot apparently does nothing, does that mean that there is no way to save my saves from a slow painful death someday? Guess I'd better finish Panzer Dragoon Saga fast, then...

Not completly...you could always buy the Saturn Floppy Disk Drive for $300 or so off e-bay. Some guy in Japan has 4 availible last I checked. I think Panzer Dragoon Saga directly supports it.Then I'm afraid there's no way to save the saves current on there when the battery dies.
However, for games that don't directly support it you would need to use the included software with it to transfer your saves. As you can't use an Action Replay since your cartridge slot is broken you would need a modded Saturn and then rip/region edit/burn the FDD software. Or you could always try the swap trick if your Saturn isn't modded.
What price do you put on your save games?

The dreamcast's memory cards don't lose their saves when the batteries die. They only lose functionality when they are not plugged into the controller.Goongrave wrote:Sorry but I'm noob: what tipe of cartridge do you need to prevent the loss of data due to battery failure?
And also: the dreamcast vmu memory card has got the same problem???
Thank you!
If the battery in a VMU dies your saves are okay but you don't be able to use it as a handheld for minigames and whatnot. Which is good, too, because in my experience those VMUs ate batteries like nobody's business...Goongrave wrote:Sorry but I'm noob: what tipe of cartridge do you need to prevent the loss of data due to battery failure?

I tried that before and still lost my saves.burningheat3rd wrote:well if you can "predict" when your battery is about to die, you can extend its life by replacing it with the system on. be VERY careful however cuz you could potentially get a little shock (i take no responsibility for this as you're attempting it on you're own)
