32X weird problem

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

My Sega 32X is having problem- it plays every game perfectly except for Knuckles' Chaotix, which I'd really like to play. I don't know if my copies Knuckles' Chaotix were built with crappy carts or something, but neither of them play, while every other game does (Even my busted Altered Beast)

Maybe clean the contacts on both cart and console. Hobie's idea of using a piece of cardboard with alcohol or contact cleaner might do the trick for the console. Make sure fully dry before powering back on.

Probably a bad cart. I bought a 32x just to play Knuckles Chaotix- bought a cart for $20-sum bucks, and it's literally the only thing that I own that wont play. Cleaned it and everything.

I don't believe in "bad carts." Make sure you clean it thoroughly and clean the 32X too.

I have a Knuckles Chaotix cart that is giving me problems as well. It will crash randomly. I know the 32x is not at fault, it was brand new.

I've had this problem with Knuckles Chaotix too.
In my experience, the 32x can be "very" finicky about the Genesis that it is using for certain games.
I have a few Genesis 2 that I had to experiment with. One of them simply won't run Chaotix and only has a problem with that game (plays my other 15+ games perfectly).

So my suggestion is to find another Genesis (or 2) and see if it plays on that. It worked for me anyways. Hope this helps.

Oh and I know it was not the cart because I have 2 copies of the game. The results were the same (works on one Genesis, not the other; no amount of cleaning changed that).
...just another lost soul...

Funny you should mention that; my Knuckles Chaotix cart is finicky as well. It usually starts the title screen, then freezes after I press Start. Maybe the carts were poorly built.

FWIW on a related note, copies of Grind Stormer for Gen are also apparently notorious for having issues. I've had mine lock up once or twice while playing but apparently completely dead copies are common enough to have stories circulating. Sometimes bad batches of chips happen because of a bad slice of silicon or contamination. Maybe someone was having a bad day soldering chips onto the boards that day.

Has anyone with a flaky copy tried resoldering all the joints?
