Eprom programmer questions, Repros ultimate tutorial (alpha)

Post by juanmiglesias »

hello, im looking forward to biuld some repros of trans. jap games, aka star ocean, TOS, FFV.. alrady look for info on the web and i decided to go TSOP way using the tsop to eprom snes custom board of rom laboratory.
my questions are:
1. is tsop 40 the only one type of memory allowed?.. i was looking to buy "True USB Willem ECU EPROM BIOS SPI universal Programmer" but doesnt seem to have tsop 40 adapter support only 32 and 48
2. what programmer do you recomend, if its listed on ebay better.. range of price from 1$ to 150+$...not over 300$...
3. what type of tsop memories to use? if you can specified models better!...

im looking forward to make a good tutorial about repros maybe for an sticky or a whole web.. only focused on games that never hit a western release or out beta state... no one wants to see repros od dracula X, mmx3, etc.. and would be a general guideline not games specific.

my table of contents would be:
1. hardware: solder iron... not using a cheap one.. flux use... desolder vacum..understanding the programmer and types of memory to use... tsop, eproms brief intro, 8bit, 16bit.. with a nice table of better ones to use.., recomendations on programmers

2. carts to find... does every game works?... what should i look for?... in this case a made an xls table with all the data from rom laboratory... that you can arrange on type of rom.. speed.. lo or hi.. etc i can upload it here if you guys want

3. advantages of using the original cart.

4. how to prepare your LEGAL rom file for burn on flash- eprom

5. soldering the tsop or eeproms.. by type of game:
lorom, hirom, sram, and so on..

6.section of LABELS and BOXES.. for offset printint on sticker paper (have to find the right name on english)... that means templates at 300dpi...for quality finish.. i just print some of them cant notice the difference from originals.. of course only on the gold logo...so i nice way to spot counterfit or repros is just looking at the seal of quality logo.. its not cost effective to try to print on gold inks to make counterfits..

i want to do this project just because its almost impossible to find a good resourse up to date page... most of them uses eproms and not all of them are friendly to follow... most of the info is scatered over forums

also youtube can be used i have my hd camera ready to do some steps by steps...

warnings all over.. do not use "good hard to find games".. and an special sections how to preserve your old rom and stickers..

BTW im from venezuela, so sorry for any.. and im sure there are miss spelling on my post... too lazy to check with word LOL

any help would be appreciated. :D

Your guide sounds great! I would like to learn about making repros, but I don't know anything about it and I have no idea where to start. Although like I said I don't know anything about this, I'd love to help out any way I can. Good luck with this. I'll be the first person to use it.
