So, uhhh... Sony's and Microsoft's E3?

Post by slowslow325 »

With all the hype that Nintendo brought forth at their E3, I haven't heard anything about Sony's or Microsoft's.

So, yea. What were the highlights? Were there any?

And was there any mention of Natal or anything?

Natal is now called Kinect and it is an embarassingly shameful ripoff of the Wii, with the exception of one game called Child of Eden that looks incredible.

Sony's Move controller looks pretty cool, but no outstanding titles yet except I think Child of Eden will be on that system too. Their game Sorcery looks ok. Kind of a Harry Potter wannabe, but it appears to make good use of the motion controls.

Portal 2 will be on PS3. Gabe Newell was there. It will also have Steam support, allowing for instant updates, steam cloud, and all the benefits that PC gamers are accustomed to.

PS3 will also see a new Twisted Metal game.

Otherwise, it was a pretty weak showing by both companies. Largely it's just a bunch of sequels that I can't even remember... um, new Killzone looks like it would be cool in 3d I guess.

They wouldn't shut up about it!

It is now called Kinect, and features stunning [/sarcasm] games, like Sonic Air Riders etc.
A few other large titles were also announced like Call of Duty: Black Ops, Metal Gear Solid Rising, Portal 2 and Gears of War 3.

However, like you I tended to focus on the Wii this time because they seemed to have much more to offer.

Child of Eden is fully playable with a normal controller as well, just like Rez.

Move = Wii+motion plus

Kinect = Advanced Eyetoy

Kinect is trying to do something different than nintendo with controls, Sony isn't.

The DSi had some "Eyetoy" features on some games...

Because Sony already knows how well Eyetoy's work in the market, whether they are built well or not.

aside from above, we got a brief bit of MGS: Rising. Just was showing off the game's cutting mechanic.

The (problems) with the move is two things.

1. They aren't sure whether or not to market it to Gamers, or people, so they are trying both.

2. Pricing.

Eyetoy did horrible due to lack of support and technology.

Oh, also you have to have an eyetoy to use move, so.

You have to have an eyetoy to use move? Sony might also be trying to boost eyetoy sales through this..

Let's recap: To use the Move you must have a PS3, Eyetoy, AND they Move controller.

To use Kinect you have to buy the new Xbox? or the Kinect accessory? Not to sure about that?

To play the Wii, you just buy the Wii.
