RAM cartridge not working.

Post by Perseid »

I have one of the white RAM cartridges Racketboy sells here and I can't get it to do anything. I burned an image of Street Fighter Zero 3 and with the cartridge inserted and the switch set to either position it still brings up an alert in Japanese that I assume says "This game requires a 4MB RAM cartridge." Since I'm new to the Saturn is there anything I'm missing? I must have patched the region correctly because the game boots and brings up the error.

the cart slots on the saturn are very sensitive, so you'll have to mess with the cart a bit. try jiggling it in place a little bit, and if that doesn't work try taking the cart out and putting it back in. once it works, i'd avoid taking it out again

Unless I'm just missing the secret jiggle I don't think that's the problem. I tried quite a few combinations. Once it's inserted firmly it doesn't move much.

1) Is it possible that after I installed the chip I put the case back together wrong so that the slot is misaligned now? I'm not even sure that's possible. The case looks fine, all the screws fit and the cartridge goes down in very smoothly and firmly.

2) How often do these cartridges not work? I find it hard to believe it's the cartridge. It's just a board with some RAM chips on it, right? Not much to die on that. But I suppose it is possible.

3) Is there something strange about Street Fighter Zero 3? Should it just boot right up once it has the RAM?

Have you tried flipping the switch?

I've had a couple go bad over the years, but it it fairly uncommon.

I have tried both. Which one is 4MB?

4mb is the right side if i'm not mistaken. and remember the cart slots are really fickle, it may take many tries!
