Yu-Gi-Oh is a popular Trading Card Game that originated in Japan. Well, it USED to be popular in the US, but no longer. I'm not sure of it's popularity in Japan. Anyway, back in the days of the PS1, Forbidden Memories was released, and it enjoyed moderate success, which I think is in part to the fact that 4Kids didn't get a hold of it. Anyway, this is my favorite Card Playing Video Game. Here's why.
Story: We begin our Story in Ancient Egypt with the Hero (Who can be renamed by you, the player, but for the sake of this review, let's call him Max). He is being told to stay at the Palace by his Mentor, but he decides to run away to play a Card Game called "Duel Monsters" with his Friends, Jono and Teana. After defeating the local players, including his friends, he is challenged by a Priest called Seto. Upon defeating Seto, Max returns to the Palace and rests. He is awakened by his Mentor though, only to find out that an evil man is seeking him out. Upon playing against the man and losing, Max is told by his Mentor to smash his most valuable treasure, a Pyramid-Like Object called "The Millennium Puzzle". Max does so, and becomes trapped in the Puzzle along with his Mentor. Fast forward to present day, we find our new Protagonist, a boy named Yugi, about to enter a Duel Monsters Tournament...
Gameplay: This is a card game. You have Cards with Monsters on them, each one with a listed Attack and Defense Stat. Honestly, there is WAY too much to this game for me to explain here. If you want to understand it's gameplay, follow this link. http://tradingpost.g1m.com/Rules.asp
Gameplay Part 2: This isn't JUST a Card Game. There are also some not-so-simple puzzles you have to do to proceed. One such puzzle is a maze filled with opponents.
Music: The Music is pretty cool. It has a Rock-Type sound to it when you battle an opponent, and it varies depending on where your Character is.
Final Word: This is a VERY fun game, and because 4Kids didn't get a hold of it, it has some fairly violent and suggestive scenes. I also think there's a little bit of language, but I'm not sure on that. It also has a sequel titled "Duelists of the Roses", but that's another review for another day.
Score: 8.9/10
