Rock Band 3 revealed, 'real' guitars promised

Post by Pulsar_t »

Finally, GH fans will realise how silly their controller really is. Of course Kotick will urgently comission his people to imitate the peripheral

I saw this info on another site and thought the same thing... how Activision must be shitting their pants rehashing the same old stuff AGAIN this year while Rock Band 3 is movin on up with new/better/more realistic music playing. Activision has almost single-handedly driven the music genre into the ground with tons of music game releases that barely improve (or don't at all) on the genre. They can go suck a fat one and sit on the sidelines watching the real contenders play. Bobby Kotick and the management of their company should finally realize that driving games/series into the ground with so many releases of degrading quality won't win the consumer over in the end... eventually they will wake up and move on.

And it's silly because...?

Adding a keyboard is not a good idea. People get lost when using the 7 oversized keys of Beatmania on the easiest difficulty and Keyboardmania got killed for the same reasons.

The lanechange is confusing and prevents the player from playing well a new song.

Also it doesn't seem to have a real challenge after you know where the keys are, it seems rather easy.

Too bad, I bet it will at most have people playing the same 5 power chords over and over again.

it is absolutely nothing like a real guitar, im guessing? I dont know about anyone else on here, but being able to play REAL instruments really kills rock band for me. I play drums, and it pisses me off to no end when i play the game and i have friends who score higher than me and start yaking about how they can CLEARLY play REAL drums better than I can, because they got a higher score on some cheap pads that feel nothing like a real drumset. because you know, when you play real drums if you miss a snare hit everyone starts booing and your streak goes down.

The keyboard looks interesting. its like playing a REAL keyboard, just not actually learning the notes. There needs to be more of this kind of thing. Sure, its going to piss a lot of people off because its going to be way, way harder than the guitar, but its more realistic isnt it?

I guess it comes down to, do you want realistic instruments, or just something to have fun with? theres going to come a point where the normal everyday guy who plays guitar hero is going to quit playing because its going to get 'too hard' or 'too realistic' for the average player.

I burned out of the genre anyways. What I want to see, is the ability to use my CD's with the music I own, and I can create something so i can play with my favorite band that will probably never get released by GH or RockBand.

And nobody wants it to be real. They want to have fun, if they wanted realism they would play a real guitar but no player wants that.

Pulstar believes that those players are wrong because they have fun with "fake ridiculous controllers".

Tapping buttons is fun, as surprising as it may be.

Nah, they are not going to increase the difficulty. Also what tends to kill a musical game is the LACK of challenge driving players away. Newbies don't have to beat the hardest song to like the game.

You can always use Stepmania

It looks like they've taken some good steps to make the keyboard easier to play. Color coding the lanes so you only need to assimilate it in small chunks was a good idea. Also doing the lane change. I don't see it as confusing, as there are guide arrows that let you know "lane is changing, be prepared".

The other thing about the guitar is it's optional. The game will still support the old controller, so it makes a good bridge for people who want to learn.

The thing is, if they stuck with the old guitar and everything, for the rest of the genre's life, it won't last to long. Believe it or not, a lot of people get bored when it's the same thing over and over.

Tapping buttons on the controller without actually really changing anything WILL get boring, they need to keep advancing. Plus, as people get more skilled with hand eye coordination, they CAN keep advancing. If you gave an XBox 360 controller to someone in the late 70's, they'd be completely overwhelmed.
