GBC Heroes of Might and Magic help.

I just got a copy of Heroes of Might and Magic for the GBC, unfortunately it doesn't have a manual. When I start the game it just throws me in there with no idea what to do, I don't know if this is normal for the game or if it's because somebody's already started the game.

I've looked as hard as I can and I can't find a manual for the game online, or a way to reset it, so I'm asking you guys for either.
