Tourist Trophy 1080i Problem
I just got Tourist Trophy for the PS2 today, as I thought it would be cool to see one of the only 2 PS2 games that supported a 1080i resolution [and, as I just found out, USB printer support.
]. I knew it was a bit too good to be true. I have my PS2 hooked up to my TV via component cables, which say they support 1080i for Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist Trophy. When I go into the game's option menu, and enter the sub-menu for screen resolution, I am able to set the screen to 16:9 with no problems. However, the trouble comes during resolution selection. I select "1080i HDTV" from the menu, and select OK. The TV screen then switches to 1080i mode, from what I can tell, and the "The resolution will switch back to normal in 15 seconds if no option is selected." I select OK again to confirm, but then the TV screen goes back to 480i! But the weird thing is, the selected resolution still says 1080i in the options menu, despite the fact that it's still in 480i. Does anybody have any idea on how to make this work? I really want to see the best resolution the PS2 is capable of.

Do you have the output in your PS2 system options set to YPbPr? If not that could be the reason you aren't getting 1080i constantly.
If it's not that then I don't know, we didn't even get any 1080i games on PS2. So I can't even test it.

Re: Tourist Trophy 1080i Problem
Yeah, my PS2's settings are set to YPbPr, and not RGB. But I did set the system settings to 16:9, which was set at "Full" before. But that didn't change anything in the game.
EDIT: It seems that it did det to 1080i after all; just not in the menus. Only during gameplay.
Also, I just read with great jealousy that the Japanese version of Valkyrie Profile 2 can run in 1080i, but not the NTSC or PAL versions. So, cheer up, Niode; both other territories got screwed on that one!

Yeah that's just 1 game. You got pretty much every single game worth having for the system in 480p, we got about 60, only half of which are actually worth playing...lisalover1 wrote:Yeah, my PS2's settings are set to YPbPr, and not RGB. Re: Tourist Trophy 1080i Problem
Just one REALLY GOOD game. I honestly would never expect an RPG from the last generation to run in 1080i; it's rare to find good ones in 480p, even. [Namco's Tales Studio still hasn't found out about the invention of Composite cables.Niode wrote:Yeah that's just 1 game.
