Sonic and the Secret Rings Not Sounding Good

Post by racketboy »

Read it and weap (unless you were expecting it)

Although Metacritic is showing mixed reviews:

I guess it is fairing better than the 360 version, but don't expect greatness.

Makes you wonder what the hell is going on over at Sega when it comes to practically every Sonic game since Adventure. Honestly, they would be better off making a totally new 2-D Sonic game or two I think. Or heck, why not finish up Sonic Extreme and put it on Wii Virtual Console, Xbox Live Market Place, and whatever the PS3 has.

I have a feeling Sonic Xtreme would have been even worse

Well, a Sega producer just admitted the Sonic games were crap because of tight launch deadlines:

OK. Firstly, I'm sure that's a huge consolation to the people who spent $50-$60 on that crap. Second, how does he explain Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog? No launch-time crunches there.

Hey... it's not even Sonic that has been suffering.

Sega has strait up been ignoring there shit for years now. It really breaks my heart, I grew up on Sega, I love Sega... I'm the fanboy of Sega that all those guys I meet are of Nintendo. Hard fucking core.

But they make me cry today... I bought Sonic, hoping, just fucking hoping that despite what I heard I could find SOMETHING in this XBOX title. NO all I found was a first level rip off of Sonic Adventure, crappy controls, a camera that is 1000 times worse then Sonic Adventure ever was (I never noticed the bad camera in SA or SA2 on Dreamcast). And I'm really doubting wanting to buy this Sonic secret rings game.... I don't want to be stung and the mixed reviews aren't freakin' helping. That and the story really isn't much sonic... it sounds like a US Super Mario 2 to me (a game that wasn't supposed to have Mario, but they plugged him in for gimmick).

What ever... I'm done Sega... Your going to have to give me another Panzer dragoon or Nights before I come back to you (I would say Shining, but since Camelot's leave of absence that series has fell flat on it's face as well... yet another reason I am angry!)

What bugs me the most though... nearly ALL SEGA xbox games aren't emulated on the 360! What does that tell you? Hrmmm....? (i want Orta... damn it)

Yeah, I hear you. Back in the days of the Dreamcast Sega was just punching out the awesomeness. Sonic Adventure, Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia and it goes on. I think the mess that was Shenmue hurt Sega bad and it looks like they may never recover.

And as far as the bad camera in Sonic Adventure, it is there. Not so much if you're trying to get theough the game normally, but if you're trying to get the emblems you have to do crazy things to finish fast enough and that's when you start to jump behind things and spin-ball right through the scenery. It was kinda bad it but it wasn't enough to ruin things for me. My assumption was that it was their first 3-D Sonic and that they'd figure it out after a release or two. Hah.

I have never really gotten into any of the 3D Sonic platformers, the original SA certainly had a nice 'wow' factor (since everyone was waiting for a proper 3D Sonic) but it hasn't aged well (IMO) unlike the original 16bit platformers.
