Arcade stick problem solved 4 now update
Arcade stick problem solved 4 now update
Hi just purchased a 3rd party product from a store for $6 plus tax. I have one working great except this one doesn't seem to function correctly. The buttons don't work except for the joystick nob. I'm having trouble opening it up. there only two screws which have been taken off. if I push against the black comfy circle there seem to be holes underneath it.

Re: Usb Arcade stick buttons no function help
Use a thin flat-head screwdriver and gently pry just below the base of the cord (where the housing meets the bottom plate). The housing should release the bottom plate with relative ease.
::EDIT::
More than likely the unit has an additional 4 screws underneath the rubber grips. You may or may not need to apply an adhesive to secure the grips again.

I just opened the guts of the arcade stick. There was some extra screws on the bottom beneath black circle cushion. 6 screws in total. now i have to screw 6 more from the inside to see whats up.

You could cut holes in the feet so that you can stick them back on, but still remove the screws in future.

It's likely that the buttons are rubber dome type as opposed to discreet switches. If there's a separate board for the switches, check any wires or cables that go to a main board with teh encoder chip.

Okay I found the problem the metal pins were not connected when they were manufactured in China. I don't know if the Chinese were lazy/tired/accident/forgetful/missed (I'm just kidding about China being lazy, but they do cut corners to make it cheaper.). So I will have to buy a Soldering iron kit probably from home depot or radio shack, which ever is cheaper to purchase. The only time i have solder was in high school making some stain glass patterns. I just have to be careful not to put too much metal/iron onto the pieces. It will be kinda tricky to solder this.

If you're going to solder anyway you might aswell put arcade quality parts in there, it's relatively easy to do on that stick, it's known as a 'Mayflash' there are plenty of modding guides up on Shoryuken forums.

Watch some solder videos like this one.benderx wrote: I just have to be careful not to put too much metal/iron onto the pieces. It will be kinda tricky to solder this.

Thank you guys for everything. I won't do soldering yet because I'm busy with college. I know its a simple project. Thank you for telling me about Mayflash I will look into it. thank you for youtube video instructions.

That stick is a mayflash stick.
They're cheap pieces of junk stock, but the parts are an easy swap so it's a great way to get a cheap casing.

Re: Usb Arcade stick buttons no function help
At a loss here, are you saying the wires are missing between the "buttons" PCB and the side PCB where the controller cable comes in? It almost looks like you are missing the wire connector harness.benderx wrote:Okay I found the problem the metal pins were not connected when they were manufactured in China. The pic looks that way, it should be a 1 to 1 match if thats the case. You already have experience with an iron just re-practice on some spare electrical wire. Get back on that bicycle.
I wouldn't mod it with new switches yet, you might find the original layout works well once you clean those pads.
A long way better then the old 2600 bubble switches.
