I just got a GP2X. It's pretty cool, but it does have issues. The biggest for me so far is the fact that it eats batteries like you wouldn't believe. The relatively cheap NiMH batteries I use for my wireless mouse won't even turn the Gp2X on. I also don't like the stick. My thumb is always slipping off.

There is a lot of good, though. Some of the emulators seem to work better than the PSP equivalents even though the PSP's CPU is faster. That might be because the Gp2X is open source. And it is quite easy to get up and running for programming your own stuff, if you like.

Keep in mind that there are almost no commercial games available. It is 95% open source/homebrew. So if you're not in it for the emulators, forget the GP2X.

With that said, you can do SNES, Genesis and NeoGeo all at speed with only marginal frameskip. Nice. :)

Yeah, I use rechargeable Energizers. But yeah, I have to charge them regularly.

Did you clock your PSP to 333Hz when comparing the one system to another or is this not based off of personal experience?

Don't expect to play SNES games on it... that is kinda poor in my opinion. Aside from that though most emulation is top notch.

The reason I like it over the PSP is the screen is nicer and you don't have to hack it. As for performance, well each has its own pros and cons... I consider performance to be pretty equal.

You can get it all over the internet...

Yes, the PSP is at 333Mhz. The GP2X is usually at about 266Mhz or so, which seems to be my system's sweet spot. And at 266 I think SNES is acceptable. Sure it has to skip a few frames but I played Donkey Kong Country and Chrono Trigger and barely noticed the skipped frames.

I was going to turn it on to see what SNES emulator I use, but guess what? The batteries are dead. Grumble.

While we're comparing this to the PSP, which ones battery life is worse? They both seem to luv to chew away batteries, but the PSP's are rechargeable. :)

The first thing I read was to not use alkaline batteries. They do not lie. You might as well just toss the alkalines on a fire. So you use NiMH batteries. And the life expectancy of course depends on how good your rechargeables are.

With all the batteries I've tried so far I have to give it to the PSP, which is kinda sad really. I did just order some Powerex batteries, though and maybe I'll report back once I try those for a while.
