I liked the Mako driving sections in the original Mass Effect. I enjoyed zooming in and picking off targets from long range, running over soldiers and blasting them with the mako's cannon and jumping over incoming shots from Geths units. I honestly never understand why people bitched and moaned about the Mako so much when it's so easy to use once you understand what you're doing. The game is so broken in your favor when you're in the Mako and people bitched about it.
I also liked the elevator sections, it was a chance to hear what's going on in the game's universe and also a chance to hear interesting dialogue between your characters. I don't mind waiting a bit for the game to load because of those reasons. Better than staring at a stupid loading screen.

People seemed to universally loathe the sailing sections in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, but for me that was actually one of my favorite parts of the game. I absolutely LOVED sailing, the whole sense of scale and adventure that you get from it, seeing that island as a speck far off in the distance and watching it slowly grow as you approach it, it was just unmatched for me personally.

One of the more memorable hate-fests came from people on this board. There was a game I loved that quite a few on here loathed. I'll mention the name and see if it draws out the haters: Odin Sphere.
I'll even mis-characterize why they hated it. I think they hated it because it looked like a beat-em-up, but was much more slower and studied. Muramasa, I think, became the game they wanted. But Odin Sphere, a little less action-oriented a bit more tactical, was what I wanted.
Of course, I also enjoyed Muramasa.
Other than that, I get into shooters which some of my friends won't touch. Whatever. They tend to love RPGs that bore me to tears.

I still don't understand what people hate about the game Shadow the Hedgehog. People complained about the weapons aspect of the gameplay, which was something I loved about it. It's a combination of Sonic and Contra that works very well, in my opinion. There's just a lot of great ideas in the game that are completely ignored by most gamers. The chaos special attacks, for example, add a new level of strategy to the game. For example, if there's a part of one level that you can never seem to get past, you can just focus on building up your "good" meter, and use Chaos Control to zip right past that segment. Brilliant. The guns and other weapons in the game gave a fun new method to the standard Sonic combat, and all of the weapons had a good purpose, and really came in handy.

All the reviews at the time complained about the aiming/shooting part of shadow. I thought the game sucked because of the slippery controls, crappy level design, glitchyness, retarded story, awful cut scenes, lame attempts at being edgy, poor graphics, cheap difficulty, and stupid "missions".

The thing I hated about the Mako driving was the parts in between destroying the tiny ant people. I agree; it gave you those moments of utter awesome when you flattened everything in your path. But then you would be on those planets with the really crazy mountain ranges (i.e. all of them), and frequently they'd be between you and wherever you're trying to go. To me the combat didn't quite feel tactical. I saw what they were going for in terms of drawing your opponents away and picking them off. However, the execution in my mind seemed to leave a bit to be desired. The Pow system forced you to take breaks for no reason when you already were having to back off due to a larger horde coming at you. The part that really got me, though, was how it was very hit or miss whether or not an enemy would go into hitstun from your attacks. If it was consistent I could plan around it. Also, Beliel is bullshit. Especially Belial + Wizard.
Now, I'd like to close this by saying that I loved Odin Sphere's story and MOST of the game. Hell, all of the final chapter boss fights were awesome.
