I have a bad (good?) habit of buying used ps2 RPGs that I find on the used game rack whenever I go to a gamestop or similar store. Right now I have these titles that I have not played:
La Pucelle Tactics
Disgaea 2
Growlanser: heritage of war
Soul Nomad
ar tonelico 2
Atelier Iris 3
Anyone have a particular favorite you think I should play first?
I have several unplayed RPGs, where should I start?
Re: I have several unplayed RPGs, where should I start?
If it were me, I would start with Ar Tonelico 2 because the soundtrack is great and because a lot of the others are SRPGs that you could spend your entire life playing.

I say start with Growlanser: Heritage of War because it has the most english words in the title.

I'm not sure about the others, but beware that La Pucelle and Disgaea 2 are major time sinks (at least, if you intend to complete them).

I say start with Soul Nomad because we need more games that have an Ogre Battle-style combat system. Of course, Soul Nomad is a fusion of Tactics Ogre (in terms of grid based movement based on turns) and Ogre Battle (the actual fights between units), but that just makes it more awesome.

Well, I got through Disgaea 2 fairly quickly.Dylan wrote:I'm not sure about the others, but beware that La Pucelle and Disgaea 2 are major time sinks (at least, if you intend to complete them).

Fair enough. Admittedly, I cheesed Disgaea 1 & 2 somewhat, but I managed to avoid using the monsters trick. I guess it depends on if you want to spend a little, a lot, or a ton of time on the game.the7k wrote:Well, I got through Disgaea 2 fairly quickly.Dylan wrote:I'm not sure about the others, but beware that La Pucelle and Disgaea 2 are major time sinks (at least, if you intend to complete them).

Yeah, it's still a huge time sink even with that trick. I know, I played Disgaea 2 quite a bit. Finding pirates, getting perfect weapons, felonies, ugh. That game takes forever. I'd advise against anything by Nippon Ichi if time is an issue. Their games swallow your soulthe7k wrote:Well, I got through Disgaea 2 fairly quickly.Dylan wrote:I'm not sure about the others, but beware that La Pucelle and Disgaea 2 are major time sinks (at least, if you intend to complete them).

Yeah, I started out trying to sink some time into it, until I eventually realized "Hey! I NEVER finish RPGs when I have to put a lot of time into them! I either get done with them quickly or I never finished them!"
After realizing that, me and my Nekomata army just stomped through the game as quickly as possible. I think I may have got about 3 endings and then I was done.
