Imports articles

Post by fingersmaloy »

I think there are enough hardcore people on this forum--as well as some people who just happen to live in Japan--that it would be worthwhile and interesting to start doing some imports articles. I know the Hidden Gems and other articles often include some import-only titles, but it'd be nice to see more in-depth, import-specific articles (perhaps console-specific, like "DS's Best Imports"). I for one could help some, and I'm sure there are a few other frequent posters who know a lot.

Or did I miss something that already exists on this site? If so, sorry.

Good idea. I for one am a huge survival horror fan. I enjoyed the new article, Survival Horror 101, but I would love to know some import titles worth getting from that genre. Deep Fear is the only one I know of currently...

And not only games that are import only, but games where an imported version is uncensored (for example: Streets of Rage 3 / Bare Knuckle 3, Super Castlevania IV / Akumajo Dracula, etc).

Not to mention better box art, better voice acting, etc. For these reasons I actually find myself wanting to own both American and Japanese versions for some games.

I support more import articles. I feel like there isn't enough coverage of import gaming on the net. Regional differences expecially are things I'm always curious about and rarely do people ever talk about them or research them, which annoys the hell out of me.

This is a good idea. There are a number of Japan-only Wii titles I'd love to see more info on.

I know a few people around here speak Japanese. Wonder if any of them would be willing to contribute info/reviews for import games they've played?

The main issue with this is that none of the main writers speak or read Japanese. I would love to learn more about this, but for a non speaker, that is months of work per article.

Well, maybe these articles could be compiled by some of the posters who do know their way around the language. I've been known to dabble in the occasional impromptu import review. Surely there are others.
