Re: Reproductions question
What i think you're asking about is EPROMs or EEPROMs. You use these EPROMs or EEPROMs, with a game image that you programmed (burned) on them, to replace the mask ROM(s) on a game. You program these chips using an EPROM programmer, which interfaces with your computer.
Re: Reproductions question
Apart from the EEPROM, you can reuse the board from crappy games if they're compatible with the repro you're making. Or you can buy newly made repro boards. RetroUSB sells some for the NES.

Wow, this is all really interesting! I'd love to make my own Genesis game!

Re: Reproductions question
The new boards from RetroUSB.com are better to use for a few reasons. The best, the pinout doesn't differ from the standard pinout of EPROMs. Second, it's all brand new parts. Thirdly, you don't have to destroy a game to make a repro cart, which I think is very important.Hatta wrote:Apart from the EEPROM, you can reuse the board from crappy games if they're compatible with the repro you're making. I asked RetroUSB if there would ever be boards for other game systems like SNES and he said it was in the works.
