New Ghostbusters 2 NES Pal Question

Post by bladerunner »

I recently disabled the lockout chip on my NES and I was wondering if anyone had experience playing Hal Laboratory's New Ghostbusters 2 (a PAL only game) on an NTSC NES? It is one of many PAL only titles I would love to play on an actual system and not on an emulator. I realize that playing the game may work fine, but the audio might be odd due to the 50/60 hz issue causing the sound to be fast. Anyone played this on an NTSC NES and if so, what were the results?

You can try it out on an emulator like nestopia which has a region switch. I had a quick look and the game boots fine in ntsc mode. They only game I know of that doesn't work is battletoads ntsc on a pal machine.

Well in this case I am trying a PAL game on an NTSC machine. I will order the game anyway and try it I guess.

Yea, there is not much you can do but. On the other side of things I have played quite a few NTSC carts on my PAL unit, none have had problems (other than running at 50hz, aka slow) other than Zelda II where the gui would always be a couple pixels behind while walking.

Its really a hit and miss kind of thing.

I sold the US NES that I'd disabled the lockout on, but my PAL copy of Over Horizon works fine on my Generation Nex, so that's an indication that it might work on a toaster with the lockout disabled. Short of someone having that game and a lockout disabled machine, en emulator is probably your best test.
