Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption
Is anyone planning on picking this game up at midnight? I am thinking about it but I have never done that sort of thing before. I actually did not pay too much attention to this game until last night when I watched like all 20 trailers on the games website. The game looks absolutely incredible.
If I did not pre-order the game will I be able to get a copy at midnight or is that usually reserved for pre-orders? If I decide to go pick it up tonight should I get there early or just show up at midnight? Any tips at all from someone who has gone to a midnight release before?

Re: Red Dead Redemption
I don't plan on playing it anytime soon, but it sounds interesting. Such an ignored genre Westerns are. The only other one I can remember from the past couple of years was Gun, which seemed decent though I never finished it
After enjoying the movie remake of 3:10 to Yuma, I wouldn't mind seeing a few Western themed games

It depends on the store; visit them during business hours to see what their policy on midnight launches is. With BestBuy, it may be first come first serve. With GameStop, its usually pre-orders only since they dont get many extras ordered in.
I've done one midnight launch, and it was for GTA 4 I had preordered at GameCrazy. It was fun, they gave out swag and there were lots of games and gamers.
Now, the PS2 launch I survived at a Wal-Mart is a different story all together.....

I want to get it, but I don't think it's one of those games that warrants a midnight release. I'll eventually pick it up.

I played through Gun 3 or 4 or 5 years ago. Whenever. I thought it was a great game but I am a fan of the western genre. If I remember correctly after you finish the game you get a super horse of some kind and a cannon gun and they let you still play the game. However, there was pretty much nothing to do once you finished the main quest if you had already done everything else before you finished. So the new horse and gun were pretty much pointless.
I know it got some shit for stereotyping but I actually liked that about the game. I know, not very PC. *shrug* I thought it made it feel more like an old western film though.

If you go at midnight, it really depends on which store you plan on going to. The only store in my town that is going to get it in at midnight is wal-mart. The only thing is, the town I live in only has probably 10-20 gamers past the age of 16, almost all of them not knowing what "Pre-order" means, so they wait until the game gets to the store, usually waiting until they see it on the shelf while browsing. Almost a 100% chance of getting the game, no questions asked. Funny thing is I pre-ordered from amazon.com to get the golden gun package, which is supposed to unlock more in-game missions. I saw a poster at wal-mart saying that if your first in line to get the game, they will give you a deck of Red Dead Redemption playing cards. That is about the only reason I would try to get there 15 to 20 min before midnight, but it more or less depends on where you live, and the demographic in your area. I live in a town full of old farts so it's really easy to get a game at midnight here.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
I called Game Stop and they told me they expected a bigger turn out tonight. Bigger than what, I am not sure. They told me to get there at like 10-10:30 and get a receipt and then I would be sure to get a copy.
Then I called Best Buy and it took forever for someone to answer the phone. They told they didn't think they were having a midnight release but to call closer to when the game is getting released.
I was thinking "um, it gets released tomorrow" but I was just like "thanks" and hung up.
Game Stop might be just trying to get me in but whatever, Maybe it'll be fun to go and wait. Summer classes start back for me tomorrow in the morning but my sleep schedule has been fucked for the past week or so anyhow with me being up until 4am and sleeping till early afternoon.
Link man, link! What deal?

My advice for midnight launch events is it depends on the store but generally they only carry the amount specified for pre-orders but sometimes they get extra copies from shipments unless its a Walmart or Best Buy retail store where they usually have more than enough copies.
Also, Kmart is giving a $15 gift card as well!! There are a ton of deals with this game.

Tempting deal at TRU but that is a short window I am not sure I would make.
