I never had one when I was a kid. I always wanted one and finally took the dive despite the poor quality of games and lack there of.
I have a copy of Virtua Fighter 32X and nothing else ATM the games that have caught my eye for the system so far have been Knuckles Chaotix, Tempo, and Kolibri. Tempo is at a decent price and could be something to hold me over till I decide to spend the $60 for a complete copy of Knuckles Chaotix. Kolibri is just to expensive and I don't have enough interest in it yet. I ordered a complete copy of DOOM off ebay for $14 shipped. I know its not very good but for $14 and having never owned any other version of the game I shouldn't care to much since my standards are pretty low having only played other versions briefly.
Now onto the real reason im posting this. I trust a lot of the opinions out there on this site and would appreciate the input. I am currently watching a copy of Star Wars and Virtua Racing Deluxe both complete for $9 each it will cost me $30 total to get them shipped here. My question is having never played them are they good Racketboy recommended them in his cheapest buys for the 32X and defining games section on the site. Unfortunately I've never played the Virtua Racing series and im not a huge Star Wars fan I like it I've just never really been one to buy the games.
Im also looking for opinions on other cheap but good games for the system. I only buy complete so if the game is $2 for the cart but $30 complete its probably not gonna bode to well. Im looking for the $10 to $20 price range thanks guys.
I have a Sega 32X
Re: I have a Sega 32X
I own both games and I can attest that, yes, they're both quite good. Both games are well-regarded renditions of the arcade classics they're based on. Each is a pretty solid game in its own right, and each would be a fine addition to your 32X library.
There's a huge caveat here though: both these games are arguably done better on other systems. The version of VR that's on the Sega Classics Collection for PS2 is the best home port of the game, and can typically be found dirt cheap. Though it is in no way the same game, Star Wars: Rogue Leader- Rogue Squadron II for Gamecube is the exact same concept (an arcade-style flight combat game based on the major space battles in the Star Wars movies), has some very similarly-designed levels, and outclasses the 32X game in every respect.
But, since you mentioned that you're neither a hard-core VR nor Star Wars fan, those details might not matter to you. If all you're looking for is some quality titles to fill out your new 32X library, you won't go wrong with either game. But if you end up liking them a lot, do yourself a favor and check out the games I mention above.
Enjoy your new 32X! It's an underrated little system.

Re: I have a Sega 32X
Yes, Star Wars Arcade is quite good. If you liked the original you should like the 32X update. If you liked that, consider Shadow Squadron as well. Blackthorne is a competent action platformer. A couple other arcade ports that were decent are Space Harrier and Zaxxon. That should get you started.
Also, if you haven't ever owned Doom before do yourself a favor and grab Zdoom and the wads. It's very much worth playing on a PC with a keyboard/mouse and all the audio and sprites intact.

Re: I have a Sega 32X
I have never played the arcade version of the Star Wars or the Virtua Racing games I am just looking for a few choice games to fill out my collection. I am not looking for the better versions on other consoles just decent games on the 32X. Thank you for your inputs so far guys.
Space Harrier was one I forgot was on the system After Burner as-well are these ones any decent and are they ports of older games as-well? Zaxxon I have never played but heard was really a decent arcade shmup.

Re: I have a Sega 32X
The only 32X game I enjoyed while I owned the system was Virtua Fighter. Once I learned how to play, it was great! Really deep gameplay that requires good reflexes... the polygons were cheesy looking, but way better than anything the Genny could do.
I also owned Doom, Virtua Racing Deluxe, and Star Wars Arcade. I couldn't really sink my teeth into any of them.

Re: I have a Sega 32X
Definitely get Virtua Racing (seems like you plan on it), Space Harrier and After Burner. If you like Sega arcade games at all, then you will enjoy these games a lot. They are almost arcade perfect. The only better versions are on the Saturn and on the Shemnue discs, except they have load times. The 32X ones are plug in and play, making them great choices for some fast Sega arcade action without having to wait.
Definitely get Tempo as well. It's a great and innovative platformer.

go for everything or don't go at all, I say.
Re: I have a Sega 32X

Re: I have a Sega 32X
Shadow Squadron and Blackthorne are two of the best on 32X and I've tried them all:

Blackthorne is of course available on other platforms but if you don't have a copy otherwise, the 32X version is quite good. Zaxxon is nothing like the great arcade version but once you get the hang of it it is okay. Beware: lots of stinkers in the 32X library! Virtua Fighter on 32X is still my favorite VF game and Virtua Racing on 32X is far superior to the Genesis or Saturn versions and probably one of the absolute best on the 32X.

Thats a pretty nice collection you have there. Like I said though I have a very small desire to own more then 10 of those.
