Repair NES or no?

Post by PsoPhreak »

My girlfriend's friend has an old NES that does not work. She has two controllers and all 3 super mario games for it. All of it is in good condition. The NES worked originally, but it eventually "died" on her. I am wondering if I should ask for it for a few bucks (maybe she might just want to get rid of it and I could get it for free since it isnt working in its current state). I am curious as to what the usual culprit is when a NES just seems to die of old age. Would this be expensive? Will it be easy to figure out with perhaps a Volt/Ohm Meter by tracing the paths and finding out where the circuit is broken? I know this is not much information, but I was hoping some experienced people would perhaps know a bit from the small amount of details I have given. Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by 'die'?

Does it not power on? Does it not play games? Do you get a blinking screen?

Give more details.

I was thinking the same thing.

If it doesn't power on, the AC adapter is probably dead (most likely).

If it were me, I would get it.

Agreed. If you can get it for free or for a few bucks it's worth it just for the games. If you get it working, cool, if not, still got the Mario trilogy on the cheap.

sigh, nevermind. she doesn't want to sell it. she says she'll get it fixed and play it one day. (yea right, she's had it for years and it just sits in her closet collecting dust, and this is a girl who has never played video games why the heck would she all of a sudden start, this is a girl who hunts deer and drinks excessive amounts of alcohol.... sigh GRRRR)

A girl with a Nintendo who drinks excessive amounts of alcohol, you say? Now I'm interested. Tell her I'll come over to her place to fix her Nintendo and have a few drinks with her. I'm sure we can figure out some way for her to pay me.
