So I got me a PSX for about 10 bucks...

I was planning on getting a PSOne, but it was in so so shape and it didn't come with the original psone adapter (ps2 slim adapter instead...). I went ahead and got me the ORIGINAL or the PSX console as they call it for a much cheaper price. This is the first time I have ever purchased PSX console since the last time I've played it was like 10 years ago at my cousin's place. My PS library has grew from mere -teen to whopping -ty and I've noticed that not all rpgs played that well on PS2/PS3 console, so I've made up my mind this morning and purchased the PSX. I prefer my consoles to be small and slim, but I will make it an exception this time. I'm just curious, does the PSone console have any compatibility issues with any of the games? Do you guys think is much safer with the psx than the psone?

You're actually better off with the PSone. No compatibility issues at all, and they last longer, more durable, etc. You're safer with it than with PS1 (that's the real name for what most incorrectly call the PSX. The PSX isn't just an original model Playstation.)

The main thing is that the model 1001 with normal RCA jacks on the back had plastic rails for the CD lens and they were closer to the power supply so they tended to warn and wear down. This led to people turning the system on its side or upside down to have it work reading games. Some of the early ones were a little cranky during videos and would stutter a bit, but it's likely you have a 55XX or a 7XXX model anyway.

I don't know, every PS1 I ever had or anyone I knew had broke after not too long a time. But the PSones kept working despite the abuse they suffered.

I've got a 5000 model that's put up with quite a bit of abuse, including a Dr. Pepper spill directly on the laser. It didn't work for a little while, but I gave it a few months and tested it again and it's worked superbly ever since.

Odd, but I'm glad it still works.

Where can I find a detailed explaination on different versions of the playstation? Because Either there are about 5000 different versions or people call them by different names.

Oddly enough Wikipedia has a pretty thorough discussion on the PSX variants. They usually don't go in depth about those sort of details.

That's what finally killed my first PSone. Took a soda being spilled into the insides to do it in. It was a Dr. Pepper too, by coincidence. My brother did it, and so afterwards I never let him near my stuff while he had a soda. The system had no chance of revival with me, though. The sugar fused all the mechanical parts together, and I have no patience for fixing that sort of thing. I just got a new one.

Well, I currently have 7 old style PS1s ranging from a 1001 to 7501 and they all work. Three of them lived in a garage for a long time and were pretty icky on the outside when I got them. Cleaned them up and they all work fine. I live in a swamp too, so they were exposed to a lot of humidity sitting out there.

I own both Playstation models and have had no issues with either one. However, I would agree that the PSone is the better model for durability and doesn't have as many issues as original units do with reading discs, etc.
