Guild Wars on Steam

Post by Marspants »

It's already been posted in the Steam deals thread but I'm also wondering if anyone else is playing right now and if they have any playing Tips! Guild Wars stuff is 50% off on steam right now till Sunday I think so I decided to pick it up.

You could find me on the Guild Wars servers about three years ago :D It was loads of fun when I played. I was actually thinking about taking my Monk for a stroll a couple months ago. Shoot me a PM if you want to play...the original.

you'd be surprised what people still play on a retro message board.

Shit, there's still an active online community for Quake deathmatch.

I tried to play this game but it never really worked for me, felt like work. Maybe it was because I was playing solo? I feel a bit sad because I always felt that "MMO" style games could have good "single player" and this one, with its absence of monthly fees was a promising candidate for me.

Maybe I'm just not playing it the "right" way? I was trying a mage I think.

Thats exactly how I felt.
I played WOW and loved it, but the monthly fee was too much.
I bought this game, but never got into it because of how un-single player friendly it was.

You were trying to solo a mage. That's the problem. My first character was a mage. This game really punishes you for high DPS. If you attack more than 1 or 2 enemies you are fucked, even at Level 20 with all your class Elites, I still get trounced solo.

You need a couple of tanks and a monk to survive the later battles. You must manage your DPS, if you do too much damage the horde will just come after you and kill you very quickly.

IF you fancy playing solo then you should roll Monk/Mesmer. That will keep you alive for a looooong time unless you are stupid about it. Battles will take a long time though.

Guild Wars is actually my favourite game of all time. Although I don't play nearly as much as I used to or want to it's a great game. If you ever want to play just send a PM, reply or whatever and I'll give my ingame name.
