minimal grind RPGs
Looking for RPGs that require little to no grind to progress. Something like the Mario & Luigi RPGs. From what I understand the MegaTen series don't require much grinding because of the weakness system. Any others?

Re: minimal grind RPGs
i never beat it, but i progressed pretty damn far in chrono trigger without grinding at all. i just fought all the battles i had to and never ran away.
edit: don't get the FF chronicles version of CT. the load times are nothing but a bitch. even to pull the menu screen up takes a few seconds.

SMT games are actually fairly grindy, although half time time it's for cash instead of levels. Chrono Trigger is a good one. I'd also say Breath of Fire doesn't require grinding. At least, if you know when you can get the awesome equipment (which doesn't require anything fancy, just going to point A after getting ability B a few times).

Shining Force 2 doesn't require much grinding and you can advance pretty quickly without it. Chrono Cross is another good example, heck, you can't even grind even if you want to.

Mother 3 doesn't seem to require any grinding, but I'm only on Chapter 2 or 3. No random battles, anyway.

I'm on chapter 4 of Mother 3, and I've hit the wall where grinding is needed. Fucking death instruments.fingersmaloy wrote:Mother 3 doesn't seem to require any grinding, but I'm only on Chapter 2 or 3. No random battles, anyway.

Well, there's always Shenmue and Shenmue II.
I think I barely had to grind at all on the GBA remake of Final Fantasy. I did grind a little in the remake of part 2. Of course, the original versions of both of those games were very grind-intensive.

Shenmue is not an rpg. I don't really know what the hell the Shenmue games are honestly.
Megaten games that I have played suck, but I've only played Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and the Digital Devil Saga. And they each did require some grinding
Jeanne D'Arc, if you have a PSP, requires practically no grinding and is quite enjoyable. The original Grandia on the Playstation 1 also required no grinding due to it balanced, well thought out combat system. Final Fantasy 13 requires little grinding except for post-game stuff, but that's pretty much because the game doesn't let you do ANYTHING. It's so restrictive it's ridiculous. Valkyria Chronicles doesn't require grinding, though it does make some parts of the game a bit easier, but grinding in Valkyria Chronicles is a pretty quick process anyway since the experience payout is so generous in some skirmishes and you level up classes rather than individual characters. Kingdom Hearts 2 is light on grinding if I remember correctly.
Stay away from any Disgaea game, they take grinding to a whole other level and most Final Fantasy games(excluding FF13) require grinding at some point

Classic Megaten games like Megami Tensei I and II and Shin Megami Tensei I and II require quite a bit of grinding. I'm playing Strange Journey right now and I had to stop and level every so often, not as much as the older games.AmishSamurai wrote:Looking for RPGs that require little to no grind to progress. I actually think you have to level less in the Final Fantasy games. Most of the time I just fight all battles possible and level fine as I go along.
Thanks everyone...
