Hello All
Just wondering if anyone can help. I live in the UK and so have been loooking for an NTSC Jap Mega Drive for some time. I finally found one in a collector's store the other day. The machine was in the original Japanese packaging so I thought it would be a Jap machine. However when I got it home I found that it does not run in 60Hz. It is nott, however the Asian PAL machine as I already have one of these and they are clearly labelled PAL on the base of the unit.
When I put a UK version of 'Streets Of Rage' into the system the new machine does play with Japanese intro text and the 'Bare Knuckle' logo but not full screen and, I'm assumng not full speed. I don't know what is wrong with the system.
From the research I have done online I believe that the Japanese MD does not have an RF out, however this unit has a hard wired RF cable coming from the back of the unit, have looked at the plastic to see if this was a mod job, but it looks perfect as though this was part of the original mould.
Base Information:
Model No. : HAA-2510
Rating : 13W
USE SA-160 AC ADAPTER ONLY
Serial No. : 99N41941
Made in Japan
Really perplexed by this. Has anyone heard of these hard wired RF unit Jap megadrives before? Could a mod job have been done on it into PAL?
If anyone could share any light on this I would be grateful.
Regards
Matt Taylor

Re: Jap Megadrive Identification needed
Very easily.
They are different mods for those two, ie you can have a console running at 50hz with JAP langauge, or 60hz, or any combo. Go onto mmmonkey and check out there guide, its a dead easy mod to do and there will be two switches so you can boot import games as well as display jap games in english, etc.
You could have a PAL unit that has had a language mod done to it, or a Jap unit that has been modded to 50hz (no idea why you would do either, but possible).
Post up some photos.

I’d go for the 2nd option emwearz said, it may be a japanese console (afaik that
Model No it’s from the japanese console) and the mod may have been made so that it could play on the old tv’s with color, because most of the old european tv’s only displayed 60hz in black and white or just gave a black screen (my old tv did that :s)

After thinking for a bit, question! What cables are you hooked up with? If your using RGB cables then it would be likely a Jap, 50hz modded machine, if your using RCA then it is not a Jap 50hz modded machine (as you wouldnt get color output).
As I said, open up your machine and take some photos.
