Does anybody else have this RPG problem?

Post by racketboy »

I have this problem where I start an RPG, get really excited about it, get sidetracked for a few days, and then never come back to it. Anybody else the same way?

Here's a slimmed down list of the RPGs I'm "in the middle of":

Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2
Golden Sun
Legend of Zelda
Suikoden
Legend of Oasis

Dude, I understand totally. I've started FFVII and VIII atleast 10 times in the past 2 years and never got around to finishing them. It might be because of my A.D.D. or I just like the simplicity of a fighting game.

Same here as well :(

I remember getting Grandia 2 and initially clocking about 5 hours on it, and then I didnt play it until 12months later when I actually was able to finish it over the holiday month (total 25-30 hours).

I played FFVII and FFVIII back in the day but never finished them, made a few starts since then but always seem to lost interest or just have other things to do.

i tend to have that problem too. last year i started on the final fantasy remake (ff origins for psx) and i think i had finished about 60% of the game but then got really busy and eventually lost interest. more recently i started up earthbound again after a 3 week hiatus - actually that was credited to a saving error after about 3 hours of play and becoming frustrated with repeating it again (the tenda village/fire springs area)

yeah -- that makes it worse when you start over.
was it on a real system or emu?

i was playing earthbound on an emu. i remember what happened now - i accidentally hit the save state quick key and i guess a key on my laptop got stuck and the save state was cycling through all the empty slots. it got caught in an endless loop and i couldn't get out, and i didn't manually save the sram (normally it automatically saves in snes9x after you close the program). learned my lesson!
other than earthbound and final fantasy 1 i generally do good with sticking to rpg's. however i recall giving up on dragon warrior back in junior high, and then with final fantasy x a few years ago (ffx lag was due to my ps2 being in pieces, a lazy friend promised to mod it for me but it took about 6 months)

I'm the same unfortunately. I'll comp Zelda games straight through, nothing stops me from playing those games. NOTHING!

But turn based RPGS tend to be a lot slower and they're the ones that turn my interest away. I've managed to do FFVII FFVIII got lost on FFIX and FFX, I got sidetracked and became lost!

I've done golden sun 1 that took me a few days from start to finish, it really pulled me in. Granted i was on holiday and had little else to do though!

I've never got the sequel...

Anybody got the sequel? Is it better/good as the original? How do you transfer your characters over to the next game??

I have the Zelda (Link to the Past? The one that was on the SNES first) for the GBA.
I got tired of it quick -- I don't like having to run around all over the place.

I have Golden Sun and I played it for quite while. But then I got distracted and never went back.
My wife got me the sequel for a gift a while back, but I exchanged it because I haven't gotten close to finishing the first. Once I do finish it, I'll be able to get the sequel much cheaper than the original $30.

I RARELY finish a RPG, it's kind of sad but true. The only RPGs I've finished are FF7, FF8 and umm.. Knights of the Old Republic , and I think thats it! LOL! So yeah, your not alone.

It seems RPGs just have a hard time keeping a persons attetion all the way though. I don't know if something gets lost in transolation or what, but it definatlly seems kind of like some RPGs just die in the middle of them.

Yeah, I only ever finished SMB RPG, Final Fantasy 7, and Chrono Trigger, I think.

I played a bit section of Chrono Cross, and FF3.

Right now, I just started FFX, and Dragon Quest VIII, but I'm not sure I'll ever finish. FFX seems a bit boring to me, and the storyline so far (just met Yuna) has been pretty crappy.

I don't know, but I might finish Panzer Dragoon Saga before either of these games.
