Impressive: the Saturn contest entries are out

Post by vbt »

Quote from Rockin'-B on segaxtreme
Finally, here are the final rankings and downloads of the

SEGA Saturn Coding Contest (C4 - 2006)

The winners are:
Bounty Getters (proof of concept) by Zaksund
Super Mario Clone ported by VBT
Charette A Bestiaux (multiplayer tank battle game) by Vreuzon
Other entries are:
3d landscape flying demo by Rockin'-B
3d car demo written in Game Basic by VBT
2d graphic demo by Charles MacDonalds
To cite a judge (Tassian):
Let me say this first: it was a real treat to see how good all the entries were and how well the really important aspects of videogames were covered: a fun gameplay, flashy 3D graphics, cool 2D graphics, nice sound and long term fun.

Don't miss playing the entries yourself, either on a real SEGA Saturn (swap-trick or modchip) or on an emulator like SSF, yabause and the like.
:) And a big thank to Racket for the support and prize offer. ;)[/quote]

cool, I remember seeing last years CD and it wasn't all that impressive, but hopefully this one will be great, as it sure does look it. :D

Well my problem with it was the menu system being incredibly buggy, along with most games being hard to actually get to because of said buggy menu.

I liked the Super Mario one although I have to admit playing it on my Saturn felt kind of weird. Now I really want a fullspeed NES emu for the Saturn.

the menu was not that buggy, maybe it was a little slow.

Great you liked it :) Did you play it till the end ?

It will be hard to get SNES full speed. Maybe a NES emu (runs at 13-16fps on 50hz Saturn without being optimized) could run at full speed and if we find a really good dev maybe a PCE engine emu.

Can the Saturn reproduce the resolution of the PCEngine? The Wii can't even do it correctly...

Maybe not in that case there is two solutions :

- game is not full screen (like current release of sms plus for saturn)
- game is zoomed but can look bad
