After getting this game for free when I bought my 360 Elite, I figured I'd play through the single player and a bit of the multiplayer before trading it in since I'd get the same money whether it was used or new. I never ever play FPS games on consoles because I hate using controllers for them, however for some reason I really enjoy the controls on this game plus, it means I can transfer to tanks/helicopters/boats without having to wrestle with dodgy mouse controls for flight. So yeah, I've become hopelessly addicted to it.
Anyone else finding this game 10x better than the shite that is Modern Warfare 2? It really is leagues ahead of MW2, the single player lasts about as long (add another hour if you play through on Hard and collect all the weapons and destroy the m-coms) however the story is much more entertaining. The multiplayer is so much better however, and is where the real attraction of the game lies (however with a much higher possibility of having a good game since most players actually know what they're doing instead of spawn-camping or abusing UAVs/noob-toobs ALA MW2).
The most surprising thing, I absolutely despise the Battlefield games on PC, I just felt like I was accomplishing nothing and dying over and over. BC2 on the other hand was a little difficult at first but once I understood the playmodes (there's no tutorial, and the manual is hopeless -- as most manuals are becoming these days, it seems like they're becoming more and more of an after thought and somewhere to stick the credits and T&Cs in print) and did a bit of google-fu on some BC2 multiplayer tips I was consistently doing well in the game despite being low level, the game feels very balanced compared to MW2 (where everybody has boosted their levels and has the unstoppable kit, IE one man army, noob tube and scrambler, the people who play normally are just cannon fodder) everybody has a role, if you don't like taking on armed combat you can play a Medic and just run round reviving dead troops (and getting support tickets back!!) dropping health kits off for people who need them (in certain spots I've been able to get over 500 points in squad heals through the course of round), play as an Assault and provide camping snipers with ammo, or just play as an Engineer repairing vehicles. I tend to play a mixture of all classes depending on what is required, however I will have a tendency to play Medic when defending (more kills per second due to the LMGs they have) and switching quickly to Recon for their Mortar strike or C4 for destroying vehicles. I play Recon almost exclusively when attacking, unless of course there's a tonne of other players going Recon otherwise nothing will ever get accomplished. Recon is very useful with their mortar strikes/C4s for exposing m-coms, and then long range kills when the opponents try and frantically defuse the bomb are plentiful.
Anyway, does anybody else have this game on here? I wouldn't mind getting a squad together, a lot of people just don't talk when playing the game, which is quite frustrating and communication can make a hell of a difference in this game.

Re: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
i think you and i are on the same page with BC2, to me this feels like one of the best multi-player components of any FPS i have ever played. It seems to have some of the best shooting and vehicle controls for any console shooter I have, my only gripe is that you cannot lay prone, which i understand wasnt included so people couldnt just lay prone and get a crap load of points with the recon kit.
I also play mixed class, depending on the situation my squad is in, or just whatever i feel like using, to me medics seem to rack up the most points with health kits, squad heals, and reviving team mates.

I rarely every play MW2 anymore because of BC2. I love the game! Leveling up to the next item/upgrade is really addicting. I almost never hear anyone being total D-Bags while playing either.

Re: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
I think that's probably due to communication being limited to your 4 man squad. Helps streamline communication (when people use it!!). This has to be one of the noisiest/quietest games on Xbox Live, noisy in that gunfire and explosions are LOUD (this game has a huge dynamic range which I love, play it with a pair of high quality headphones and you'll know what I mean) but the there's no cunts shouting bollocks at you or lambasting you because you didn't see that guy sneaking up behind you (thanks for not watching my 6, asswipe...) so yeah the four to a squad thing works really well, it helps co-ordinate the chaos in little bite-sized chunks. Would be nice if there was some sort of over-ruling communication or somebody designated as a general to co-ordinate the squads better. The current system works very well though, I'm just nit-picking.fvgazi wrote:I rarely every play MW2 anymore because of BC2. I love the game! Leveling up to the next item/upgrade is really addicting. Re: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
While I will say right off the bat I am a big fan of Modern Warfare (Both 1 and 2) for there single player campaigns, I never play online.
Bad Company 2, is fucking awesome! The way the story is told, the characters and the all round engine (Who doesnt love blowing up a gas tank next to a house and watching all inside get fucked up) while number 1 was by all means average, number 2 is just bad ass and in my view a step or two about MW, it doesnt feel quite as polished but everything else is a notch above and is just more fun to play.
Its amazingly underrated because Battlefield was not the first to go from WW2 to Modern it is often seen as a rip off, etc. (Much like the new Call Of Duty) Its a great game in itself, and in many aspect passes MW.
I am glad you like it Niode, I had it pegged as a game you wouldn't like.

Re: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
dude. I'm right there with you. BC2>MW2 easy.
I liked the single player from BC1 a little better. Never played it's multiplayer.
This multiplayer is fantastic. The only class i pretty much stay away from is Assault. I think i have one gun to unlock on it, and then i've played through all the unlocks. Even though it is kind of a jack of all trades class, and has some pretty high powered guns at the last levels, the grenade launcher is kind of weak (thank god). You can't take down any vehicles, and you are only on par with medic class. To not be able to revive and only be equal to the medic seems a little weak to me so i'd pick medic over assault any day. Unless we are popping smoke. Man does that shit piss off recon.
My favorite class is probably recon. There are a handful of sniper guns that rock with the red dot sight. Plus I *Love* finding creative uses for c4. And if you are getting slammed going aggressive, it is easy to switch it up and snipe/spot.
Getting "dog tags" for knife kills is the best part of that game by the way. Love collecting tags.
I've been meaning to do a write up on mw1, mw2, bc and bc2 all in one roundup but just haven't gotten around to it.
Niode, if you see me online playing something else shoot me a message. I'll gladly mic up and play with you. Because I've unlocked pretty much everything i wanted to I only really play when i see people on. We'll get some games in.

@Emwearz
Yeah, I pegged myself as not going to like it. I don't really like these games even on PC, but this one has got me hooked, it just has that certain something that is really addictive, plus the balanced nature of it is very appealing, everything has a counter attack, I particularly love sniping those god-damn UAVs as a Recon. They always think they can hang back and send hellfire missiles in from a distance, but with my 12x scope I can easily pick them off, a couple of shots from my T88S and down they go. I love sniping people out of those Blackhawks too, very satisfying, they think they're invincible against Recons and concentrate on picking off the stationary weapons or engineers. I'd love to see what their reaction would be.
em, what's your gamertag? Would be nice to play some games with you.
@nickfil
I'll send you a message next time I see you online, don't forget to do the same for me, or just join my squad if i'm in game. Would be nice to play with more experienced players. I only know 1 friend that plays it so far. He has been playing for about 60 hours and has unlocked everything I think, he's really good at the game.

Despite being against the grain, I really dislike online gaming. I dont play online, I had a gold account for 3 months and all I played was a bit of a Street Fighter IV, all my multiplayer gaming I do with some mates on the couch next to me.em, what's your gamertag? Why I love retro, no online

Shame man. Would have been nice to play some BC2 with you.

60 hours is more than enough time to unlock everything. Unless you went totally out of your way to not play a class, you got it all. I'll look for ya online.Niode wrote:He has been playing for about 60 hours and has unlocked everything I think, he's really good at the game.
