I currently have two PAL Saturns. They both have the oval buttons and both are incompatible with the mod chips available to play back burned media (I bought a modchip 8 years ago before I realised the incompatibility). Other than that, they work fine.
Are all PAL Saturn machines with the round buttons compatible with the modchips that are available these days? It's unlikely an ebay seller will take one apart to get pictures of the drive mechanism and controller, so is there a way of checking, perhaps by serial number, to get a compatible one?

Re: PAL Saturn models
Does anyone know?
If i pick up a mk2 with the round buttons am I likely to get a model compatible with the mod chip as available in the store, or from consolegoods.co.uk?

Re: PAL Saturn models
Yes, generally speaking, a round button is model 2 and is compatible with the mod chips. However, some are 64pins/sanyo boards and supposedly they're finicky and sometimes don't work.
