Small Sega Saturn Game Rip/Audio Question
I am not sure this belongs in the mod sub-forum, but if one can "properly" rip a game CD of its audio content, would the result include most, if not all, of the in-game audio tracks? The game I am going to try and rip on my own is the Phantasy Star Collection for the Japanese Sega Saturn, but if generally speaking, it's not possible to rip a lot of audio tracks from a game CD, then I won't even bother to buy the actual game to take a shot at it. Any input would be helpful -- Thanks.

Yes, you can use cdrwin to rip any Saturn game into the .bin/.cue format. I just did a bunch of Japanese games yesterday. You don't lose any content or quality.
Also, if your interested in converting the audio tracks (.wav files) into smaller mp3s on the fly you can do this using Nero. Instead of a .bin/.cue format you would end up with a .iso/.mp3 format. You could then use the Sega CD/Saturn cue maker application to make up a cue sheet for it.

I think he isn't talking about backing up the game, but instead ripping on the songs.
It depends on the game. Some games utilize RedBook CD-audio for most of their background music tracks. But some games don't (Lunar 2, Panzer Dragoon Saga both come to mind...).
As for Phantasy Star Collection. No the soundtrack isn't in CDA tracks on the CD. The game is more or less just an emulator with the game's roms on the disk. Accept Phantasy Star 4 which is split into some strange files. Either way... You'd have an easier and MUCH CHEAPER time getting the music for the games off the downloadable roms on the net. You can rip them during live gameplay (which is just tedious) with kgens. Or you can chop up the rom file and locate the actual PCM files and find some way to decode them (not as tedious, but requires some tech savvy).

Er, forgot what I just said for the time being, but in regards to what lordofduct said, recording from an emulator doesn't produce the same quality as ripping it from an actual game CD, does it? Can't remember where I read that, but I've owned the PSIV game before and played it on Gens as well. The Gens version sounded slightly different to me.
