So sick of lame people on eBay
So sick of lame people on eBay
I got a "great deal" on a sealed Metal Gear Essential Collection... Showed up in the mail today. Guy shipped it in paper! Just wrapped it up and shipped it like that. What go's through peoples heads when they do this shit? I'm sure the discs are fine but the cardboard container is messed up. Its a collectors edition.. what would make someone think paper is enough to ship to another country? I paid more for shipping then the game so there's not even any point in returning it

Re: So sick of lame people on eBay
I have had this happen so many times (I have had carts rock up cracked) but because you paid so much for postage (This guy wrapped it in a cereal box cardboard and duct tape with some stamps) its almost worthless sending it back. Then you get someone who charges $2 for postage and it comes in a fortress.
I feel for ya, its such a pain in the ass!

Tell me about it I hate people who don't have a clue how to ship items. I think the worst that happened to me was I bought a complete in box Terranigma and the guy used heavy duty tape on the terranigma box so I can't take it off or it will just rip the box apart. Also the guy mailed it in an unprotected vanilla envelope, for the 100 I paid it should have been put in a box. It also came crushed.

I don't do this every single time I buy something from Ebay, but if something about the seller and the feel of the post makes me think that the seller is going to cheap out on shipping, I just send a message specifying my preference for a box or padded mailer.
Any reasonable seller would either just eat the additional cost, or message you to specify some extra amount of shipping that you should pay.

I pretty much stopped selling on eBay because I kept getting screwed on shipping. Sometimes, if something I sold went for only a dollar or two, I would lose money on the whole deal after shipping it out. eBay does not let you charge enough really. Besides, their fees are just crazy.
Re: So sick of lame people on eBay
Something like this happened to me recently. I bought a lot of 50 nes games from a reputable seller (2000+ feedback 99.7%) When I get the package I notice a big hole in the side of the box. I open the box up an notice that there was no sort of bubble wrap etc. About 5 of the games were severely cracked, 80%+ of the games showed signs of water damage, and one game was missing. The seller didn't mention any of this and what pisses me off is that he charged $20+ for shipping. Atleast the games looked pretty good after I cleaned them up.
Also most of the games (any system) I buy and come in good condition and are packed the shipping is only $2.95-$3.95.

You really cannot blame sellers about this. Ebay is just not setup in a way that allows sellers to properly ship items. If its your own company on your own website you can add in that cost and you can ship correctly but in a free open market like Ebay, once one seller sells dirt cheap and ships in a paper bag everyone else has to as well to even get business. The buyer almost always makes their choice on a product by total price. If you buy something with a low shipping amount you can't expect much. Most shipping for games is $4 or less and good luck shipping something in a box with delivery confirmation for that. I haven't sold on ebay for awhile but I think they even cap your shipping amount at $4. With ebay fees the way they are now, sellers can't afford to pay money out of their pocket for shipping.
Besides you can always get insurance...
The web's first video game public library! http://videogameexperiment.com rents all games for free and sells them for less than Ebay and Amazon! Plus we take anything in on trade-in.
Re: So sick of lame people on eBay
oh god, another ebay sucks thread. Well, I have something to say.
Ebay is very much like gambling, you never know if you will win, and even if you win, you don't know if it was worth it. For example, I bought a complete in box (probably never played) Neo-Geo CD, looking at the photo on the auction the box looks mint, or at least close enough to mint for me. So...3 weeks after I win the goddamn thing, it shows up shipped in the Neo-Geo box, which is:
Covered in shipping tape, in every edge and corner, as well as down the middle of all the sides.
Has postage stamps all over it (in the wrong places, mind you)
The corners of the box look like they were used to determine the velocity in a simulated car crash
THE GUY SPELLED HER OWN NAME WRONG
jesus christ, i mean, I guess thats who you have to put up with when you get steal deals on ebay (I personally will never forget about one auction for a boxed Wonderswan color, where the description just said "good").
And another thing, I had some asshole not send the item I won, claiming that it was broken. bullshit. It was a mint in box WhiteDS signed by shigeru miyamoto. At least he gave me a full refund, but I still want my goddamn DS. He shouldn't have let it go for such a low price if it was so close to him.
roar, grr, aaah, schree, and shit.
I will never sell on ebay, because it is just too expensive and risky

Every time I read one of these thread it amazes me that I've never had a bad experience on ebay. I must be the only person in the world.

irony in the making!
You are going to buy something uber-valuable and it is gonna be shipped in tissue paper, covered in dog hair and basement.
