I just got a genesis and a few games from a friend. The genesis works perfectly with mortal kombat, sonic, sonic 3, etc. Pretty much, all my games except one. Comix Zone
For one day, i played it almost all day long. Now, 5 minutes after putting it in, the game just restarts itself. Also, when i jump against the side of the comic book page, it freezes. I'm just wondering if theres anything i can do, or is this cart dead? I really hope it can be fixed easily because this game was fun as hell.
Problem with one of my genesis games
Re: Problem with one of my genesis games
Couldn hurt to clean the cart and see if it makes a differnece.
Re: Problem with one of my genesis games
Clean the cart AND the console. You'll also have to clean ALL your carts because they'll just get the console dirty again, and probably your Comix Zone cart too.

Alright i'll try it. Any special tools like with nintendo stuff? Or can i just grap a random phillips head. And I just use a cotton swab and what... rubbing alcohol? Any parts of the inside i should avoid?

Re: Problem with one of my genesis games
Most Gen carts you need a 4.5 mm game bit, which is a little larger, but the same type as needed for NES carts. If you don't have one, you could try the jury rig pen method, or you could just have a go with q-tip without opening the cart. Just keep cleaning until the q-tips don't get dirty anymore.

Tried cleaning it and it didnt work. I'm guessing it's dead?
Re: Problem with one of my genesis games
Look at the pins... do they shine? Do you see anything on the pins?
Re: Problem with one of my genesis games
The pins look like the pins on all my other genesis games. Not shiny at alll, but no chunks or dirt or anythin on them.

Although there isn't an answer yet, it seems to be the exact problem you're experiencing. We've suggested replacing the caps and resistors, but no one has tried it yet. I would myself, but I don't have any dead carts.
I also suggested to lift the mask ROM off the cart and put it on a compatible known good working cart. This would isolate the problem. If the mask ROM works on another cart, you know the problem is with the caps and resistors or the PCB. If it doesn't work on a known working cart, you know it's the mask ROM.
I don't know how good your soldering skills are, but this is what I would do.
