Is Ebay really worth more than friendship?
Is Ebay really worth more than friendship?
I had just been to my local gamestop in my area looking for fantasy star online 1+2 and 1+2 plus for the gamecube. Now I started to collect gamecube games for about 6 months now and I never knew what a great system this is. It is my top 3 systems of all time. So back to the story well at my gamestop they called the only three stores in the country to have these two games and they all are on hold for people who already called looking for these games. I thought my luck was bad but its gets worse. I called up a close friend of mine and I told him about what happened and he says "well I have both games if you want them" I almost wanted to cry because even though gamestop sells them for 5 bucks a piece ebay sells them for 60-80 dollars for each game. So I asked him where he got them because he doesn't even have a gamecube and he said he got them from a trade in some lady was doing at a gamestop and she got nothing for them so she gave them to him. Right place at the right time I guess. So I asked what he wants for them, He says and I quote "I'm not going to give them to you I'm putting them on Ebay. If you want these games give me 60.00 a piece and their yours" I told him that that's messed up and he should do a favor for a friend. So he said o.k 50 a piece take or leave it. Wtf kind of friend does that to someone? I'm not going to sell them I want to collect these games and play with them. So I gotta ask you guys anything like this happened to you and what do you do? Also anyone knows where I can get these games for my collection? Thanks for your help guys please give me some pointers.

Maybe he should be pissed at you for not wanting him to have some extra money in his pocket. To make the assumption that just because you are friends he should "just give them to you" makes you sound like a crappy, selfish friend.
As for pointers: check craigslist and your local thrift store regularly.

YO I did tell him that I would give him ten a piece since he got the games for free at least there is twenty bucks but a hundred? c'mon would you do the same to friend of yours for ten plus years?

Personally if I was in your boat I would keep my eyes out for other copies. Your friend doesn't sound like he would budge on the subject. Maybe he needs the money. I don't know the situation. But if he is just being a greedy douchbag then I would reevaluate the friendship and determine whether that is a type of friend I would want to have. Just my two cents.

What kind of friend rips off someone they know? I know he's not the kindest person, but as far as I know, I don't see why he's obligated to. Then again, considering he's selling the games, they obviously don't mean much to him. Personally, if I didn't care about both of them, I'd probably sell them to a friend for about $20 a piece (would you pay that much for them?).
I'd say try to look into garage sales. If you want to play them, you'll have to pay top dollar. First you'll have to get the adaptor. Then you'll need that awesomely expensive keyboard (Japanese only) if you want to get the full expirience. I dunno if it's worth it, but then again, it's really only as expensive as the latest music games.

Dude, he just wants some extra cash from the deal; who wouldn't? I think you should look elsewhere. I got my copy of I&II off Ebay for $15, and III for $20. Just keep looking; you will find it eventually.

You both sound like close friends
I understand his view much more, if they score $60 on ebay a piece, that would be like him giving you $120, I mean mates rates is understandable, but even so.
Just leave it, find your copies elsewhere.

I wouldn't risk a friendship for it, but it sounds like you and your friend aren't on the best terms. I wouldn't do that to any of my friends, and none of them would ever do that to me, but we have the basic philosophy that if we want something from each other we pay it back.
Maybe not right away, but with friends, favors fall hand in hand.

I'll hook a friend up any chance I can get, but if I NEED money (which I usually do) I'm not sure if I'd be willing to sell something to a friend for 10% of what I could get for it on eBay. I wouldn't think twice to give a friend discount (probably more than a $10 discount) but I don't know about $10 for something that fetches $60.

Your friend just knew he had some profitable games on his hands, so I can't say I blame him. Although, I personally tend to help my friends out in these kinds of situations. I've had sealed games before I could sell for a fair price, but end up giving them away as gifts for birthdays and such.
Maybe just buy Episode 1&2 Plus off of him? See if he'll take $40. I'd say that be a good way for him to avoid eBay fees, time spent packing and shipping and help you out at the same time.
