Shenmue - The Movie (Xbox Bonus DVD) [2002]

Post by Mozgus »

I uploaded this at UG, so just a heads up. You can find it here:

This is an Xvid encode of the bonus DVD which came with Shenmue 2 for the Xbox in USA. It is a 90 minute summary of Shenmue 1. It's much longer than the summary video which Disc 4 of Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast contained. I believe that video was only around 15 minutes long. This DVD was put together fairly well and really does play out in the form of a movie. I think they may have even inserted some custom camera angles here or there, because I definitely don't remember some of them in the game.

I used Auto Gordian Knot to do the encode. It is a fantastic batch processing utility which handles the vast majority of the work which these advanced video tools would normally require, though I am actually quite experienced in all of them. I used the default settings, which are surprisingly intelligent, and pretty much ensure the best possible quality you can get out of the format. There are even hidden options you can use to push things further, but none of them applied to this type of video. (It's not anime, it doesn't have standard text-only end credits, it doesn't use merely mono sound, etc).

I'm including an SFV file so you can check the integrity, and the encode.log file which details the process the VOB files went through.

So yeah, this will fit perfectly on a CD-R. I can't promise that it will play using the Divx codec, as I don't install that bloated thing. Xvid is backwards compatible with all Divx content, and does so much more. Grab it here if you have problems playing the movie:

I always do wonder how this did in Japanese theaters. Supposbly it was actually released in some there from what I've read.

i might have to get that. i remember back when it was released standalone (early 2002 i think) i tried to find it on ebay for cheap. i ended up getting a vcd shipped from malaysia for a total of 8 bucks or so. bad idea since it was crap quality, english voices, and non-removable chinese subtitles

Guys, it's now or never. This torrent will probably be dead in a week.
