Sega All Star Racing or Mario Kart Wii?

Post by SpaceBooger »

My wife and I are thinking about getting a game we can play together for our Wii and we came up with Mario Kart.

But, being a SEGA fan I suggested Sega All Star Racing. She doesn't care which one we get, so I am wondering:

So which one is better and which one should I get?

The pros to Mario Kart is that evey one we know has it so we could play online with them.
The pros to SASR is that I love Sega and it's $10 cheaper.

Well being a Sega fan, I'd suggest All stars Racing, but Mario Kart was the game that started the kart racing genre. If price is a factor then, get all stars racing is a great substitute for Mario kart. If not, then nothing beats Mario Kart wii. Ironically, I'm going to pick up All stars Racing. It also depends what your wife recognizes, she'll enjoy the game that she recognizes more characters from. Hope you enjoyed my suggestion

Its not just a price factor, just a nice bonus.
As for characters my wife never played sonic until we were married, but she logged in many hours on SMW.
She says she doesn't care, but I think you may be right that she would want to play the one she recognizes more... and playing with her family members online...

Well, I'm already biased toward Mario Kart since I've been a fan of the series since the SNES title came out. I haven't played SASR yet, but it looks like fun. It looks to me what I call a Mario Kart clone. Not that that's a bad thing. Diddy Kong Racing was a Mario Kart clone but a VERY fun game. In fact, I might like DKR better than Mario Kart 64. That might sound off-topic but I'm using DKR vs Mario Kart 64 to compare Mario Kart Wii to SASR.

I thought Mario Kart Wii was a very fun game, and a solid title in the series. I think it's the best to date. But I wouldn't be able to give you a definitely answer since I haven't played SASR. I just thought my experiences might help your decision.

The online play on Mario Kart Wii is solid, especially when you have friends with the game. Racing online never seems to get old, but trying to beat ghosts, especially your friends ghosts, can also be a lot of fun. I remember my one friend and I were trading ghosts back and forth for a while. I'd send him a ghost, he'd beat it and send it back, than I would try to beat that one, and so on.

The offline game play is also solid. There's plenty to do on single player, lots of stuff to unlock (which in my opinion motivates you to play the game more) and the offline multiplayer is just as fun.

There's the standard amount of tracks for a Mario Kart game, 4 different cups of 4 races each. Then there's 4 MORE cups which are tracks from previous Mario Kart games (which for me was an awesome thing to include). So there's lots of different tracks.

edit: There's also on and offline Battle mode, of course, but I haven't played much of either actually. There's also worldwide challenges that you can compete in. I'm sure I'm leaving out some other features as well.

I'm going to say you should go with Mario Kart Wii. Everything that everyone said is true, the only thing I have to add to it is that MKWii has more unlockables that are actually a challenge to unlock. SASR has a shop system where you just race and buy the characters and tracks. I prefer MKWii in this sense. SASR has better track design but I believe that you'd like MKWii better.

My wife and I have been playing Sega All-Star Racing since it came out, and she really loves it.

I can't speak for Mario Kart Wii, but Sega All-Star Racing is definitely a top-notch title. Don't let the 7/10 review scores fool you!

I like both games, but Sonic & Sega doesn't have 2-player simultaneous online or even 2-player cup competitions - just single races -(which made me rage).
So to this end, I'd say Mario Kart is better for 2 players

Haven't played SASR, but Mario Kart Wii bored me to tears. Played it for one cup and never, ever put it back in my Wii.

If this was between SASR and Mario Kart: Double Dash, we might have something.
