This collection buisness...
Well, I am looking to start a collection of some retro games (NES, SNES, Megadrive, Genesis, ETC) I don't mind not having the system to play them or a different region console, I just love games, new games, old games just seeing them makes me somewhat happy. Anyways, where would be a good place to start on my minimal budget (say $50 every two weeks, or a little more)
Re: This collection buisness...
You mean where would be a good place to look for new games? Do you mean online, or locally? Frankly, eBay and Game Gavel are probably your best bets on the Internet, but don't always expect deals to be forthcoming. As for local...what area do you live in? Some folks here might know where to check for good games for low prices.
And always check Videogamepricecharts.com Seriously, you never know.

Well, I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada if that helps.
But really, if you say to yourself, "I am going to stat a collection" What is the first thing you do? make a list of games? What would be a place to look for some games that would be worth collecting? (I am looking at that website now)Would you even have to worry about the value of games or just buy something that catches your eye at you VG shop?

If you're just starting a collection, scan the Craigslist ads for people selling off their entire collection. You can often find a better deal that way. These bundled deals are less appealing as you start to amass a collection as well, because you don't need all the duplicates.
Look through the "Videogame Finds of the Day... " thread to see what kind of low prices people are scoring and where, so you don't blow all your budget on an overpriced game when you could have had 20 inexpensive ones.
I think pawn shops, garage sales, and flea markets are where you are most likely to find stuff where people don't realize the value of what they are selling (or don't care).
If you need help deciding what to get, look at some of the guides here on the main site portion of racketboy. The "defining games" and "hidden gems" articles will keep you busy hunting for a long time.

As for the beginning, he should look on the "Cheapest games" articles at first

I've got no signature.
Re: This collection buisness...
your best bet is to purchase games you really want to play. you'll have a much more satisfying collection. if you want to go for a complete set, i'd still start with the good games first, because it's really depressing to have a bunch of sports games and shitty licensed junk sitting around before you really get to the good stuff.

Have you dropped by any of the Nexwave game shops in Edmonton? They were pretty decent when I lived there from '99-'04. I visited the one between NAIT and Northlands Colussium on 118th Ave a few times and it had some cool stuff. I mostly drooled over the copy of PC Engine Dracula X they had, but they did have quite a decent selection of retro stuff if I remember correctly.
Here's a link to their locations: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/depots
Also, you might have luck at garage sales, Craig's List Edmonton and of course on forums like this one.

So you want to collect games, although you don't care if you can't play them? Might as well collect empty boxes.

I don't mind, I would rather have a game I can enjoy, but if I get a sealed game I'm not going to open it if it is more than 10 Yrs old.
