if you have an intel based mac then i recommend parallels.
Parallels will let you run another OS on your desktop without duel booting.

I ran into the same problem you did and let me tell you from the mass of frustration i had with it- you need windows XP to find the dongle. Something about windows vista just doesn't do it. There are a slew of tweaks that are online for getting vista to find it, but all of them didn't work for me. Save your time. Go with XP.

If you are on a power pc mac- you are fucked. No way you can do it.

Yup, that'd be the best way. Check into virtualbox, it does the same thing except it's free.
