I Thought Sonic Was Hold Down Right...

Post by cabrando »

I finally got around to playing/beating the first Sonic on the Genesis.

Boy does it feel good to have played through it. I didn't get all the Chaos Emerald. I actually enjoyed this a lot more than any Mario game except SMB3.

It is definitely not about holding down right, there is some fantastic platforming in this game. I'm probably preaching to the choir here, just glad my eyes have finally been opened to Sonic.

Off to play Sonic 2...

The HDR defamation thingy was started by Mario fetishist propagandists. Let us know when you finish the 16-bit quadrilogy which of the games felt the best to you. It's always interesting to hear the opinion of a Sonic virgin so to speak.. (sorry if the term offends you )

Mario fetishist propagandists huh? I don't think I've heard THAT one before. I prefer it to "fanboy" I think, has a nice ring to it.

I never understood the whole 'hold right and jump now and then' argument. All the people that say that couldn't have played past the first level of any Sonic game.

Yeah! In some of the levels you have to hold left instead of right.

I had the impression of hold right because I never made it past Green Hill Zone. I'm not sure why I never played it past there, I guess my attention span as a kid was very short.

I think everyone's attention span was shorter then. Saving games wasn't as common so a lot of us did just play the first or second level repeatedly.

That 'argument' seemed to have come up rather recently (probably due to the news of Sonic 4). Is it just me, or did it all of a sudden become cool to bash on the old-school Sonic? :?

...The irony of that statement astounds me.
